This is state-sanctioned vigilante terror against people peacefully asserting their First Amendment rights.

It’s so incredibly clear that the police stood aside and let a pro Israeli lynch mob run wild at UCLA. They did nothing for two hours as violent Zionists assaulted students, launched fireworks into the encampment, and sprayed mace on students.

Importance of Pro-Palestine Student Protests

Dr. Masood Raja

Learn about the importance of pro-Palestine student protests in this video. Discover the impact of student activism in supporting the Palestinian cause.

What is Postcolonialism?

Since I claim to be a postcolonialism scholar, I think it is apt to include a brief description of my field of study. In my view,

Postcolonialism ( also written as Post Colonialism or Post-Colonialism) is a dynamic field of literary study that focuses on the history of colonialism and native responses to the colonial policies and life after colonialism formally ends. The field of postcolonialism also offers insights into the literature and culture of the the former European colonies and their struggles after the end of colonialism.

Transkripzioa:

0:00

by now you have probably heard of or

0:04

read about the ongoing student protests

0:08

in support of Palestine and Gaza and

0:13

ceasefire in my view this is one of the

0:17

most significant developments in

0:20

American

0:22

politics let’s explore it a little

0:27

further so the first

0:30

major Pro Palestinian

0:33

encampment and Gathering of students

0:36

happened at Colombia

0:39

University then it has spread to MIT UT

0:44

Austin campuses in California and rest

0:47

of United

0:50

States now this is

0:53

significant if you look at the history

0:57

of protest movements especially workers

1:02

struggles if you need a source for it I

1:05

would highly recommend Franco baral’s

1:08

The Soul at work he explains the 1960s

1:12

protests within the American context but

1:15

also within Italian and European context

1:18

and what he tells us is that most of the

1:20

time when workers are protesting for

1:24

better rights the students are on the

1:27

margins of that protest they actually

1:31

usually do not join in and there is of

1:35

course a material reason for it while

1:38

the workers are engaged in labor and are

1:41

fighting for better rights the students

1:44

interest is usually connected to their

1:47

future they are the workers in the

1:50

making but since they are at

1:52

universities their interest doesn’t lie

1:55

with the working classes but with the

1:59

future that will be given to them after

2:02

they finish their education without

2:05

getting in so to speak trouble so in the

2:08

1960s when the

2:11

students join the peace

2:15

movement the V anti- Vietnam protest and

2:18

the workers struggle that was something

2:22

that had not been

2:24

imagined by theorists and philosophers

2:27

of change and transformation

2:30

but that

2:32

shift then put two constituencies

2:35

together people struggling for their

2:38

rights and people who

2:41

otherwise would have become part of the

2:44

elite group whose job it was to control

2:48

the

2:49

masses and that Alliance then made all

2:53

these movements in the

2:55

1960s more effective and in a way more

2:58

Universal so if you you look at that

3:01

history think of it these protests

3:05

started at some of the elite schools

3:08

Colombia MIT

3:11

Yale right these are not the schools

3:14

that we associate revolutionary politics

3:20

with and that is the most instructive

3:24

thing these students are already at

3:28

universities that prom is a brilliant

3:31

future that have the most coveted spots

3:35

in their

3:36

admissions these students in the

3:39

material terms have a lot to

3:43

lose

3:44

right but despite that they stood and

3:49

are still

3:50

standing in support of the Palestinian

3:54

people that is a huge

3:57

shift in American

4:00

politics and an American understanding

4:03

of the Palestinian issue so why do I

4:07

find Hope in

4:10

it obviously I am one of those people

4:15

who wants and who has advocated for the

4:19

absolute independence of people of

4:21

Palestine and their right to live a

4:25

dignified life right without being

4:28

dictated by Israeli armed forces or

4:30

anyone else in the world as to how they

4:33

must conduct their lives that’s what my

4:35

stance has been on this channel but also

4:39

all my life what is so significant about

4:41

it what’s significant about it is that

4:45

as soon as the invasion of Gaza started

4:48

there were public protests huge

4:52

protests right in DC in all the major

4:56

cities of United States but that was

4:58

people like you and me right right who

5:00

have lived their lives and maybe are not

5:03

much worried about careers right and

5:08

whose lives weren’t so precarious but

5:11

when the students join

5:13

in these are the

5:16

people who have a lot at stake their

5:19

very

5:21

Futures and if they are disregarding

5:24

that and standing for justice and peace

5:27

for Palestinian people that is

5:30

significant that means that the Young

5:33

Generation and I have always placed my

5:36

hopes in the Young Generation that the

5:40

young generation’s moral thinking is so

5:43

strong in their sense of justice is so

5:47

powerful that they are ready and willing

5:51

to

5:52

imperil their own

5:55

futures for the cause of a people across

5:59

the ocean

6:01

being oppressed and denied their right

6:04

to exist peacefully and that they are

6:07

morally so

6:11

aware that they can put their own future

6:13

at risk to stand for the Palestinian

6:17

children being killed right now and for

6:20

the Palestinian people in Gaza who are

6:22

being starved and the Palestinian people

6:25

in the West Bank who are constantly

6:27

under slow and violent onslaught of the

6:31

settler

6:33

movement if these young

6:36

people who have so much at

6:40

stake can take a stand for

6:44

Palestine then not only do they deserve

6:48

our respect they also deserve our

6:53

solidarity right our words in their

6:55

favor we putting our bodies along IDE

7:00

them in this massive

7:02

movement that is Shifting American

7:05

politics so how is it shifting American

7:09

politics people think that American

7:11

politics is deeply complex but it’s not

7:16

there are two major political

7:19

parties the Republicans and the

7:22

Democrats the Republicans have more of a

7:24

stable base and the reason for that is

7:28

that they have a whole

7:30

of by and large most of the rural areas

7:32

of United States and by and large

7:36

most religious-minded people I’m not

7:39

saying

7:41

all vote

7:43

Republican they are less worried about

7:46

their

7:47

base Democrats on the other hand have a

7:50

more complex base there are more

7:54

constituencies that the people running

7:57

for Democratic offices have to think of

8:02

within

8:03

that the prop Palestinian movement has

8:07

never

8:08

been a powerful

8:10

constituency no presidential candidate

8:13

or a Senate candidate has probably ever

8:16

worried about what’s my stance on

8:18

Palestine and how it’s going to impact

8:21

you know my chances of getting

8:25

reelected this

8:28

movement let L by students and joined by

8:32

millions upon millions of American

8:34

people have shifted that

8:37

perception the Democratic party now we

8:41

already know that the Progressive

8:43

Democrats are

8:45

already in favor of the rights of

8:47

Palestinian people but even those who

8:50

are not Progressive

8:53

Democrats I can promise you are right

8:56

now thinking about this

9:00

because here is the thing the

9:02

Progressive Democrats might not have

9:05

large

9:06

numbers we may not be the

9:09

majority but we are powerful voting

9:12

blocks in every state in every contest

9:16

including the presidential

9:20

election and

9:22

now that students and they’re not just

9:25

Palestinian students please bear in mind

9:28

there are Jewish students with them

9:30

there are American students from every

9:33

Walk of Life in ethnicity with them this

9:36

is not just an Arab or Muslim movement

9:39

right these students now have started

9:44

something that is spreading to other

9:48

campuses and history teaches us that

9:51

once the students get involved in a

9:55

movement because they have so much at

9:58

stake once they get involved in a

10:01

movement it is very hard for the powers

10:05

that be to put down that movement so how

10:09

is the politics shifted because of this

10:12

movement it’s shifted because every

10:15

single Democrat who’s running in urban

10:18

areas of United States will have to

10:21

confront questions about their stance on

10:24

Palestinian

10:26

lives and will have to con convince

10:30

people that when people of Gaza were

10:33

being

10:34

killed they did

10:37

something and that they have a future

10:40

plan for the for a peaceful and

10:43

dignified future for the Palestinian

10:46

people these will become the issues that

10:50

these people will have to address

10:52

because of this student movement now as

10:56

I’m watching these protests I can

10:59

already see what is being Unleashed

11:02

against

11:03

them okay there are

11:06

politicians speaking about there needs

11:09

to be peace on campuses and the

11:11

university presidents must do more some

11:15

of these politicians are the same

11:17

politicians who had no qualms about

11:20

people marching on the US capital and

11:24

rans sacking

11:25

it then there are others who are telling

11:28

us the campus need to be secure for

11:31

Jewish students absolutely they need to

11:33

be secure for all

11:35

students and that’s what will be

11:39

Unleashed against these student

11:41

movements and groups

11:44

right so that’s why they need to be

11:47

cautious they need to be careful their

11:50

rhetoric has to be rhetoric of peace and

11:53

not of retaliation especially of

11:56

retaliation against people who might be

11:58

opposed to them them there might be

12:01

people right across the street from you

12:03

who are from the opposing group it’s

12:06

okay I think if the student movement

12:09

remains focused on the significance and

12:13

importance and dignity of Palestinian

12:16

lives and does not get engaged in any

12:20

rhetoric in any way that could be

12:23

construed as hateful if they are led by

12:27

love of the Palestinian people

12:30

people nothing can defeat them and that

12:33

is the only advice I will give the

12:35

organizers and the student leaders is be

12:39

mindful of your

12:41

words Infuse your movement with love and

12:45

don’t let hate enter it because the

12:50

moment it becomes hateful the forces

12:54

array against you will start labeling

12:58

you they’re already doing that so as I’m

13:02

recording the students are being

13:04

arrested faculty members are being

13:09

arrested and that is tragic

13:12

but it’s a powerful message it’s

13:16

something that the mainstream media can

13:18

no longer neglect they have to report it

13:22

and they are reporting it people are

13:25

asking questions you why would students

13:28

imperal their future futes oh well

13:30

they’re fighting for

13:32

Palestine who would have ever thought of

13:35

that in my entire life in United States

13:39

I’ve wondered all my

13:40

life you know would there be a large

13:43

enough constituency in United States not

13:46

just of Muslims and Arabs but every day

13:51

Americans who would one day take a stand

13:54

and tell Israel no more right and and

13:58

take it upon themselves to speak for the

14:01

rights of Palestinian people these

14:04

students and the protesters in the

14:07

street have taught us that that moment

14:10

has arrived the politics has

14:14

shifted and those of you who hold the

14:18

powerful offices in this

14:21

country whose minions are right now

14:23

Gathering statistics and

14:25

Fs remember that this

14:30

generation that right now you’re

14:32

arresting and labeling will change

14:35

American politics and will force you to

14:39

acknowledge that what Israel is doing in

14:41

the occupied territories and what Israel

14:44

is doing in Gaza right now is

14:48

immoral and

14:51

indefensible that’s all my love

14:56

support and prayers for all all of you

15:00

out

15:01

there putting yourselves at risk

15:05

imperiling your F

15:07

future for the people of

15:10

Palestine I will never forget

15:13

it and the Palestinian people sure will

15:16

never forget what you did for them thank
