It’s phenomenal how the left wants the #jobguarantee to meet some purity test of policy effectiveness, a standard never applied to any other progressive policy (tanf, snap,EITC, etc), ignoring the wholesale structural improvements the #JG makes to labor markets & people’s lives.

Try promoting it as a transition job designed to promote the transition from unemployment to private sector employment, and at the same time function as a superior price anchor… 😉

Geoff Coventry‏ @gladkiwi

Yeah, but in this case it’s the job itself they don’t like 😉

Warren B. Mosler‏ @wbmosler

Hauei erantzuten: @gladkiwi @ptcherneva

Yes, and I’ve addressed that as well.

Warren B. Mosler‏ @wbmosler

The problem is you’re promoting the job per se rather than making the point the transition aspect.

Pavlina R Tcherneva‏ @ptcherneva

Don’t see promoting jobs for those who need them as a problem :). Some will not transition.

Warren B. Mosler‏ @wbmosler

Understood but people hear that as an expansion of gov.

Pavlina R Tcherneva‏ @ptcherneva

I hear you. I have a new piece coming out–that’s a major confusion for many. JG doesn’t ‘expand govt’, it reduces existing real costs while adding real benefits.

Yup. And some still call it ‘inflationary’ no matter how many times we explain the superior price anchor.

Warren B. Mosler‏ @wbmosler

Hauei erantzuten: @ptcherneva @gladkiwi

That’s why you need to start with a non disruptive wage.

Pavlina R Tcherneva‏ @ptcherneva

Hauei erantzuten: @wbmosler @gladkiwi

Ours is non-disruptive. Phased in by 2022, but even when we model $15/hr this year, it’s still not inflationary

Warren B. Mosler‏ @wbmosler

It’s viewed as disruptive and you are fighting a general belief that raising the minimum wage is inflationary

Litha‏ @sentientview

Hauei erantzuten: @wbmosler @ptcherneva @gladkiwi

What would a non distruptive wage be?

Warren B. Mosler‏ @wbmosler

A wage not high enough to attract current full time private sector workers, as described in my presentations, thanks

So many JG critics seem to think technical details come first, ignoring all the literature in public policy, biz strategy, etc.–i.e., fields that do change implementation on a regular basis.

Hauei erantzuten: @MattBruenig @srlie @zachdcarter

My beliefs: I believe we should strengthen the safety net. I believe the JG should be part of that net. I believe employment should be a right of those who want it. I believe it is a moral issue. I believe values/goals are 1st order. Tech details 2nd

Warren B. Mosler‏ @wbmosler

Me too. And there are other people who value the core monetary aspects of jg who are also voters, such as transitioning people from unemployed to private sector employment and enhanced price stability.

So I don’t see it as “us against them” but something broadly bipartisan.
