Demand Grows to Ban the Entry of the President of Israel into Australia for Incitement to Genocide
The demand to ban Israeli President Isaac Herzog from entering Australia has grown significantly in recent weeks, with new legal complaints and an expanded coalition of organizations calling for the denial of his visa and the opening of a criminal investigation (Anadolu Agency, 2026; Middle East Monitor, 2026).
On January 29, 2026, the Australian National Imams Council (ANIC), the Jewish Council of Australia, and the Hind Rajab Foundation filed a formal complaint with the Attorney General, the Minister for Home Affairs, and the Australian Federal Police (AFP). They request the revocation of the visa under the Migration Act on character and public interest grounds, and the investigation of Herzog for incitement to genocide, complicity in war crimes, and unlawful hate speech, citing many of his public statements—such as asserting that “an entire nation is responsible” in Gaza—supported by the 2025 UN Commission of Inquiry report (Middle East Monitor, 2026).
This action adds to and escalates the prior petition by the Australian Centre for International Justice (ACIJ), together with Al-Haq and Al Mezan Center for Human Rights (January 23, 2026), which had already urged the AFP to investigate for genocide (ABC News, 2026). The current coalition includes an unusual alliance between Muslim and progressive Jewish Australian communities, deepening internal divisions.
Herzog’s visit, scheduled from February 8 to 12, 2026 and invited by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese as a gesture of consolation following the Bondi Beach attack, now faces growing calls from Labor progressives, Greens senators, and independent MPs to cancel it. National protests are being announced, including a “national day of action” during his stay (The Guardian, 2026). Herzog rejects the accusations as taken out of context. The Australian government has issued no official response.

On this day in 1885, King Leopold II of Belgium declared Congo as his personal colonial possession and proceeded to commit horrific genocide upon the Congolese people.
8-10 million Congolese died during ‘personal rule’, with violence as a mechanism of organising production. Through mercenaries, prisons, forced starvation, and executions, Leopold II turned Congo into a concentration camp, using Congolese as the labour to extract vast profits from the rubber quotas imposed on the population.
The profits were used to build Belgium’s grand buildings and landmarks, while Congolese were exterminated systematically through forced labour, mass killings, and famine.
While the metropole of Belgium’s empire flourished, while Congo became an extraction machine. Workers who failed to meet the quotas were mutilated, having their hands cut off. These workers included children.
Villages were punished collectively. Women were held hostage until men delivered rubber. Failure meant mutilation, flogging, or execution. Terror was the incentive structure. Pain replaced wages.
The Congolese people never saw the profits, only the oppression of being used as slave labour. Belgium has still not offered a formal apology to the Congolese people for the genocidal atrocities committed against them…
Because doing so would acknowledge a fundamental truth; that European capitalism was not born from ‘innovation’, ‘free trade’, or ‘liberal values’, but through barbaric destruction of global south nations and the looting of their resources for profit.

US tech companies requested that Washington impose sanctions after the UN rights official sent ‘threatening letters’ warning them of complicity in the genocide in Gaza
White House officials have used “terrorist-grade sanctions” to target officials from the International Criminal Court (ICC) and UN special rapporteur for the occupied Palestinian territories, Francesca Albanese, freezing assets and disrupting war crimes investigations, Reuters reported on 6 February.
According to interviews the news agency conducted with U.S. and UN officials and sanctioned individuals, Washington is seeking to penalize the ICC over investigations into US and Israeli war crimes.
The effort to target the UN and ICC came in response to requests from at least two US tech companies involved in Israel’s genocide of Palestinians in Gaza.
Reuters wrote that the companies approached the White House after receiving letters from Albanese warning they were contributing to “gross violations of human rights” by Israel in Gaza and the occupied West Bank.
The companies identified by Albanese include Alphabet, Amazon, Caterpillar, Chevron, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Lockheed Martin, Microsoft, and Palantir.
Tech companies have helped the Israeli military with cloud services and AI to operate weapons systems, including choosing targets to bomb, such as low-level members of Hamas and their wives, children, and neighbors living in the same building.
In November 2024, the ICC issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and then-defense minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes in Gaza, including using starvation as a weapon.
In July, the White House responded to Albanese’s “threatening” letters by placing her and some ICC staff on the US State Department’s Specially Designated Nationals sanctions list, which is traditionally reserved for individuals involved in terrorism, narcotics trafficking, and weapons proliferation.
The UN says Albanese has diplomatic immunity and that the sanctions are illegal. It called on the decision to be reversed, warning it could undermine the wider international human rights system.
A few months after placing the UN special rapporteur and the ICC staff on the sanctions list, US officials removed Syrian officials from the same list, including Syria’s self-proclaimed President Ahmad al-Sharaa and Interior Minister Anas al-Khattab.
The terror designation was lifted from Sharaa, the former Al-Qaeda and Islamic State in Iraq (ISI) commander known for ordering suicide bombings to target Shia civilians and minority groups, in preparation for his visit to the White House last November.

Dockworkers in over 21 Mediterranean ports will be carrying out coordinated actions today (February 6) to block arms shipments bound for Israel. Unions and port workers in Italy, Greece, Turkey, Morocco, and the Basque Country are refusing to load, unload, or allow transit of military cargo destined for Israeli ports, including Ashdod and Haifa.
The actions are being organized as a regional “day of action,” led in part by Italy’s USB union and Greek dockworkers’ unions, with workers monitoring shipping data to identify weapons cargo.
