Reminder: in 2008, six ships broke Israel’s illegal blockade on Gaza

Israel didn’t intercept them out of fear of global backlash & b/c they expected those flotillas to eventually tire themselves out

But the boats kept coming, so Israel began attacking them under a pretext that their naval blockade aims to “prevent weapons, ammunition, military supplies, terrorists & money from entering” Gaza, & to prevent “terrorists… & other maritime borne threats” from leaving Gaza.

Israel never found a single weapon on board of any of the ships they have intercepted since!

Israeli Knesset member, Einat Wilf, admitted that “the armaments for Hamas were not coming from this flotilla,” & that the ship’s attempt to reach Gaza “had nothing to do with [Israel’s] security”

Today, Israel didn’t even bother to make up an excuse for attacking the Sumud Flotilla in international waters, kidnapping the activists on board & continuing to hold them captive at the time of writing this.

Israel’s message is now simple & undisguised: we are starving Gaza to death, the “civilized world” is letting us get away with it & you can’t do anything about it!

The Israeli government admitted last June they intercepted the Madleen ship out of fear that allowing it into Gaza would incentivize many others to follow suit. Hence, the only answer to this atrocious piracy, draconian siege & genocide is to sail more ships towards Gaza!

Millions worldwide are flooding the streets after Israel’s illegal interception of the #GlobalSumudFlotilla in international waters. The world is watching, and we will not be silent #FreePalestine

I was sitting in my tent, trying to find some rest from the hardships I endure every day, when suddenly I heard the voice of my nephew, who is only seven years old, crying with deep anguish.

I rushed to him, thinking something terrible had happened, and when I reached him I asked, “What’s wrong? Why are you crying? What happened?”

He looked at me, his eyes red from crying, and said with burning sorrow, “Israel captured the heroes who were on the naval fleet… I have been waiting since yesterday to meet them and hug them, and now I cannot see them.”

I was shocked by his words—how could a child this young understand all of this? I said to him, filled with sadness, “Don’t cry, my dear. You are a hero, and they are heroes too. One day, you will meet them.”

He looked at me through his tears and asked, “Can you promise me that I will meet them?”

I smiled at him with confidence and said, “Yes, I promise you, you will meet them… but now you must calm down. They want to meet the heroes, and crying will not make you a hero.”

His expression changed, his eyes filled with happiness and strength, and he laughed, repeating, “Yes, I am a hero… I am a hero! I will meet them!” He then went to his mother, still saying, “I am a hero… I am a hero…” He left me alone in my confusion and pain, thinking of how the occupying army had blocked the entire fleet, and that we might never meet them.

A child of seven lives through genocide in all its details, yet hope fills his heart. He believes he will meet heroes—kind, gentle people with all the beautiful qualities.

To everyone who was on the naval fleet: I say this—You are our source of strength, our hope, and our energy. Even if you could not reach us, you have reached our hearts, and the hearts of every young person, child, girl, and elder.

We send you all our love and gratitude.
