According to The Guardian, citing foreign surgeons who worked in Gaza, Israeli weapons designed to disperse high levels of shrapnel are inflicting severe injuries on civilians, particularly children.

The weapons, used in densely populated civilian areas, include missiles and shells packed with additional metal fragments intended to maximize harm.

Volunteer doctors at Gaza hospitals report that a significant portion of their surgeries involve children struck by tiny shrapnel pieces that cause extensive internal damage despite leaving nearly imperceptible entry wounds. Amnesty International has criticized these weapons for their apparent intent to cause maximum casualties.

Feroze Sidhwa, a trauma surgeon from California who worked at a hospital in southern Gaza, described treating numerous young children with injuries from these small but devastating shrapnel pieces: “About half of the injuries I treated were in young kids. The splinter injuries were minuscule—much smaller than anything I’ve encountered before—but they caused extensive internal damage.”

Lin Jian: China made clear its position more than once. We firmly oppose the US spreading disinformation about so-called China’s support for Russia’s defense industry, to which there is no supporting evidence. We deplore and reject the wrongful remarks of the US side.

Right after the Ukraine crisis broke out, the US falsely claimed that China was providing military support to Russia. Till this day, the US has not offered any substantial evidence. Even US military chiefs admitted that China did not provide military assistance to Russia in the Ukraine crisis. Statistics actually show that over 60 percent of Russia’s imported military components and dual-use items come from the US and other Western countries, 95 percent of Russia’s key components destroyed by Ukraine come from the West, and 72 percent of Western parts of Russian-made weapons come from US companies. How does the US explain that? What is more, the US and its allies have yet to stop trading with Russia. Last year, their trade with Russia reached over US$ 130 billion, accounting for 18 percent of Russia’s foreign trade. Most countries in the world don’t engage in the sanctions against Russia or stop their trade with Russia. China is anything but US’s scapegoat.

It is hypocritical and double standard for the US to falsely accuse China of our normal trade and economic exchanges with Russia, while passing legislation to provide massive aid to Ukraine. The US has often claimed itself to be the so-called champion of justice, human rights defender and world policeman, but what it has done is to fan the flames, sow discord and create confrontation and rivalry. Who is the culprit of the Ukraine crisis? Who is behind the regional conflicts and wars and protracted crisis? Who is the biggest source of instability of global peace and stability. The world is clear-eyed.

Let me make clear once again that China is not the creator of the Ukraine crisis nor a party to it. That said, we have not just sat by and watched the crisis unfold. Instead, we have worked actively to enable talks for peace and a political solution. We’ve never sought to fuel the flames, never profiteered from the crisis and still less given weapons to any party to the conflict. This position is clear and consistent. On that basis, there is normal, legitimate trade and business cooperation between Chinese companies and other countries, including Russia, in line with WTO rules and market principles, which is not for certain countries to judge. The US might as well reflect on the root cause of the crisis and do something for peace rather than being an unfair judge in this crisis. The US must never expect China to pay for the mistake the US has made, and China will never accept US blame-shifting, bullying and coercion. China will continue to take resolute measures to safeguard its legitimate and lawful rights.

Dr. Issam Abu Ajwa returns to work in Deir Al-Balah, #Gaza, after being abducted and detained for 200 days in the occupation’s prisons.

Dr. Abu Ajwa explains how he headed to Al-Maamadani (Baptist) Hospital in northern #Gaza where he worked as a volunteer surgeon at the beginning of the war in service of his homeland. He remained there until he was arrested on 17/12/2023.

He recalls how he was taken among other prisoners with no clothes to an area near the sea where it was extremely cold and then transported to IOF military barracks. There, interrogations were ongoing for 125 days around the clock, while they had their hands and feet cuffed, and their eyes covered.

The prisoners were tortured by the IOF who poured cold water on them and directed ventilators and cold air towards them. Every two hours, they were taken to a new interrogator. The IOF asked Dr. Issam about the zionist captives to which he replied: “As a retired doctor, I don’t know anything about captives or wounded. I work at a private hospital belonging to the Church.”

When one of the interrogators found out that Dr. Abu Ajwa was a surgeon, he told pointed towards his arm and said: “I will make you get out of here no longer a surgeon because I will make your hands paralyzed. You will not be able to use them anymore.”

Dr. Issam Abu Ajwa said: “I told the interrogator ‘I promise you that when I get out of here, even if on a wheelchair, I will head to the operation room.’ And here I am in the operation room.”

Israel’s genocidal army is using fragmentation weapons in Gaza. They are designed to maximize casualties and are having devastating impacts on children. Sanjay Adusumilli, an Australian surgeon who worked at the al-Aqsa hospital in central Gaza, told the Guardian:

“It was unbelievable the number of amputations we had to do, especially on children. The option you’ve got to save their life is to amputate their leg or their hands or their arms. It was a constant flow of amputations every day.”

Adusumilli operated on a seven year-old girl who was hit by shrapnel from a missile that landed near her family’s tent.

“She came in with her left arm completely blown off. Her family brought the arm in wrapped in a towel and in a bag. She had shrapnel injuries to her abdomen so I had to open up her abdomen and control the bleeding. She ended up having her left arm amputated,” he said.

“She survived but the reason I remember her is because as I was rushing into the operating theatre, she reminded me of my own daughter and it sort of it was very difficult to accept emotionally.”
