Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky unexpectedly cancelled his appearance via video-link at a secret US Senate briefing. What does the last minute hiccup say about the situation in Ukraine’s power circles?
It was expected that Zelensky would inform American congressmen about the latest developments on the ground in Ukraine and urge them to disburse over $60 billion for Ukraine.
On the same day, the upper chamber failed to vote on a Ukraine aid bill because Democrats threw out GOP border reforms from it. In response, Republicans made it clear that they will not support any further assistance to Kiev unless border measures are included in the legislation. Meanwhile, the current Ukraine military package has almost been exhausted. There are also rumors in the Western press that NATO allies want Zelensky either to hold the talks or to freeze the conflict along the line of contact. Will the Kiev regime be forced to take a pause during the winter season?
“Well, what we won’t see is a pause,” Scott Ritter, former Marine intelligence officer and UN weapons inspector, told Sputnik. “I mean, the Ukrainians and even the collective West, they’re throwing terms out there like: ‘You know, it’s a frozen conflict. We fought them to a standstill.’ No, it’s not a frozen conflict and they haven’t fought the Russians to a standstill. Last winter, you know, the Ukrainians had their victory in Kharkov and Kherson. The Russians were consolidating their defenses, they had mobilized 300,000 men, and they were building the defenses. And so there was a pause that allowed [Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief Gen. Valery] Zaluzhny to plan an operation. They had the luxury of time to build the nine, I think they actually built 12 brigades, equipped them, prepared them for this counteroffensive, etc.”
“Right now, we have a situation where the Russians are ready. Those 300,000 are fully trained. The majority of them have not been committed to the battlefield. In addition to that, over 450,000 volunteers and contract soldiers were absorbed. The Russians are at full strength with all the equipment, all the wherewithal. There will be no operational pause. The Ukrainians, on the other hand, have nothing to replace what’s happening. They’re now literally grabbing teenagers and pregnant women and putting them on the battlefield to fill the holes in the lines. There’s nothing coming behind, and the West is out of money. There’s no equipment. The Russians are not going to hit the pause button to give Ukraine a chance to catch their breath. The entire purpose of the Russian approach has been to grind the Ukrainians down to the point of exhaustion. And now we’re there.”

100% I have a similar “catch up” story. Many, many, months after I documented Ukraine’s mass-firing of rockets containing “Petal” mines onto Donetsk and surrounding cities, onto civilians, HRW later finally reported on Ukraine’s firing the mines elsewhere (but ignored Donetsk)

We would never have done such a thing if they had not started destroying Russia on our historical territories in Ukraine, expelled people from there, declared Russians a non-native nation. Are they completely crazy? Are they completely, as I would put it more simply, popularly, completely insane?
The air force was used against civilians, tanks were used. We actually didn’t interfere with it at first. We thought it would somehow calm down on its own. No! Then we were forced to start helping people. We concluded these Minsk agreements. They also said, “We are not ready to fulfill them.” Did they try for it? They said it publicly.
The former chancellor of Germany and the president of France said: “We didn’t even think about implementing them.” They only signed it to prepare Ukraine for war. An attempt to push Russia back, weaken, crush. Nothing works for them!

Maybe we should join NATO?
But no.
NATO doesn’t need such a country.
Acting Russian President Vladimir Putin, in an unexpected gesture to the West, suggested in a television interview today that Russia would consider joining NATO if the Western alliance agreed to treat Russia as an equal partner.
“Why not? Why not?” Putin said when asked by BBC interviewer David Frost about Russian membership. “I do not rule out such a possibility . . . in the case that Russia’s interests will be reckoned with, if it will be an equal partner.”
“Russia is a part of European culture, and I do not consider my own country in isolation from Europe and from . . . what we often talk about as the civilized world,” Putin said. “Therefore, it is with difficulty that I imagine NATO as an enemy.”
George Robertson, a former Labour defence secretary who led Nato between 1999 and 2003, said Putin made it clear at their first meeting that he wanted Russia to be part of western Europe. “They wanted to be part of that secure, stable prosperous west that Russia was out of at the time,” he said. https://theguardian.com/world/2021/nov

I met with leaders of US defense companies and expressed my gratitude to every American worker who manufactures weapons that help us safeguard our people and defend our land. I appreciated all American companies that attended last week’s US-Ukraine defense industry conference. I also proposed establishing a European defense hub in Ukraine. We are prepared to make all essential decisions, cut red tape, and allocate orders.
We are ready to produce more ammunition and military vehicles, but we require support. It is important to develop joint production of artillery ammo, air defense systems, and artillery and missile systems.
Together, we can create more jobs, generate more strength, and provide more opportunities for both of our nations.
