Today I held an almost hour-long phone conversation with the President of the European Council, A. Costa. I fully respect him, but while he spoke about money for the war in Ukraine, I kept repeating the senseless daily killing of hundreds to thousands of Russians and Ukrainians.

If for Western Europe the life of a Russian or a Ukrainian is worth shit, I do not want to be part of such a Western Europe. I told A. Costa that I will not support anything, even if we have to sit in Brussels until the New Year, which would lead to support for Ukraine’s military expenditures. I am ready, as Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic, to support Ukraine in its reconstruction on the basis of bilateral negotiations between the Slovak and Ukrainian governments, but I reject senseless killing.

In this spirit, I sent a letter to the President of the European Council, A. Costa, and to all the prime ministers of the EU member states, which you can read here.

In Gaza, hundreds of tents sheltering people displaced by the war have been flooded after a storm brought torrential rain to the Strip.

At least 11 people are reported to have died, including five killed when a house collapsed in northern Gaza. A baby girl has also died of exposure. The UN says almost 800,000 displaced people are at heightened risk of dangerous flooding.

Gaza authorities say 22,000 tents destroyed as storms submerge displacement camps — Palestinian Information Center (PIC)

Gaza’s Government Media Office says winter storms have destroyed more than 22,000 tents across displacement camps, worsening an already dire humanitarian crisis. Office head Ismail Al-Thawabta said successive storms submerged tens of thousands of shelters, turning camps into waterlogged mud fields as nearly 1.5 million displaced people endure freezing temperatures with little protection. Emergency shelter sites have partially collapsed, water networks failed after mixing with floodwater, and contamination also shut down 10 mobile medical points, destroying vital medical supplies.

Flooding and unsafe terrain have blocked health teams from reaching large sections of camps, Al-Thawabta said. Gaza urgently needs 300,000 new tents, he said, but only 20,000 have entered since the crisis began.

Israel is a failed state.

Despite all the glitter, the branding, the lobby webs, the propaganda, and the trillions of dollars it has extracted from western countries, Israel has never found a way to stand on its own two feet.

It literally cannot exist without its twin benefactors—American and European taxpayers—footing the bills, coddling and providing political cover for their endless war crimes.

They can’t stick to one origin story—constantly shifting between the claim of an empty land, to necessity after their holocaust, to absurd new claims of indigeneity, to “so what, winner takes all,” to and to.

They’re stuck between racism and geography, unable to decide if they’re European or West Asian like everyone else in the region. They say they’re indigenous, even though they bear zero resemblance to anyone else in the region. In the same breath, they’ll say they’re the front lines of western civilization, against..wait for it…the region they’re supposedly indigenous to.

But most of all, Israel is a failed state because it has no moral footings. They have no real roots in the land. No native family stories or songs or foods or dances or traditions connected to the land. They’re endlessly stealing Palestinian traditions and try to pass them off as their own. The ethos of Jewish supremacy and contempt for the rest of us so pervade their society that it has created barriers to their humanity. The flaunting of their own sadistic cruelty distances them from the common human humanity.

Fatima Al-Rayyes says:

“Our constant prayer every Ramadan was always: May God return it to us increased, not diminished. Until Ramadan came… and my entire family was gone, all missing. Yet my solace is that God chose them as martyrs, just as they wished.”

Nearly thirty days after October 7 and the brutal Israeli assault on Gaza, the family endured thirty nights of fear and terror, believing survival was close.

They chose their words carefully, hiding their fear from their daughter Fatima, living abroad.

Thirty nights passed like hell — escaping death only to meet it again.

They were all killed when the Israeli army bombed their six-story home in the Industrial Area.

Not all were killed instantly. Moayad and Mohammad survived, as they were outside the house at the moment of the strike.

On November 6 and 7, they desperately tried to recover their family’s bodies for burial, managing to find only their parents and their nephew Karim.

A few hours later…

On the morning of November 8, after burying those they had found, they returned to continue the search.

Only hours separated the burial of their parents from the return of Israeli aircraft, which struck the house again with two more missiles.

Moayad and Mohammad were killed instantly, joining those still buried beneath the rubble.

In seconds, the last thread of hope was cut.

Fatima — the daughter abroad — had thanked God when she learned her brothers were still alive, believing they were her remaining support in this life.

Only hours later…

they were taken from her as well.

Jana, a 15-year-old Palestinian girl, was traumatized 18 months ago when dozens of Israeli soldiers besieged the tent her family had fled to after bombardment south of Deir Al-Balah.

Soldiers stormed the tent, shouted at the family, and opened fire, severely wounding her father in the leg before abducting him by helicopter.

Jana and her siblings were subjected to severe psychological terror: Jana was handcuffed, her mother was blindfolded and restrained, and soldiers threatened to kill Jana in front of her while forcing the mother to choose which child would be killed first.

The children were left handcuffed along with their grandmother for more than 10 hours. Jana continues to suffer lasting psychological and neurological trauma from the ordeal.

But Israel is deliberately blocking any of it from entering for a third straight winter, forcing displaced Palestinians to endure cold, rain, and flooding in shredded makeshift tents.

Dozens of displaced Palestinians protested near Gaza’s seaport camps west of Gaza City this week, rejecting the use of tents as emergency shelter and demanding mobile homes and the immediate start of reconstruction, according to Palestine Online.

The protest, organized by the National Gathering of Palestinian Tribes, Clans and Families under the slogan “We don’t want tents, we want caravans and reconstruction,” came after severe storms caused widespread flooding and collapse in displacement camps. Gaza’s Government Media Office said the weather system caused an estimated $4 million in losses, killed at least 11 people, collapsed 13 homes, and damaged or destroyed over 80,000 tents, many of them swept away or submerged.

Community leaders said tents offer no real protection and have become deadly traps. Speakers urged the introduction of mobile homes, heavy equipment for rubble removal, and the launch of full reconstruction, warning that thousands remain trapped under debris and that displacement conditions are no longer survivable.

Journalist Chris Hedges says that Israel’s attacks on Gaza, rebranded from “self-defense” to “war” to a hollow “ceasefire, remains an ongoing genocide carried out against a besieged, defenseless population.

He notes that despite the ceasefire, Israel has violated nearly all its terms, continued bombardment and killings, restricted aid to famine levels, expanded its military control to more than half of Gaza, and enforced a shifting “yellow line” where civilians, including children, are shot on sight.

Hedges underscores that Gaza’s 2.3 million Palestinians face systematic destruction: mass displacement, starvation, the obliteration of infrastructure, and denial of reconstruction materials.

The genocide, he argues, has merely slowed, not ended, becoming a form of “slow-motion killing,” with daily deaths, rampant malnutrition, collapsing living conditions, and mounting prisoner abuse.
