ITALIAN GENERAL: “NATO FACES STRATEGIC DEFEAT IN UKRAINE”

In a rare and highly critical statement, Italian General Marco Bertolini, former commander of Italy’s Joint Operations Command, has declared that NATO is facing a strategic defeat in Ukraine — both militarily and politically.

Bertolini told L’AntiDiplomatico that the alliance has transformed from a defensive organization into a tool of continuous war, projecting the American geopolitical model from the Balkans to Eastern Europe.

“The end of hostilities in Ukraine,” Bertolini warned, “would represent a strategic defeat for NATO and the entire West as participants in the conflict.”

⸻ WHAT HE MEANS

According to the general:

•NATO has moved far beyond its founding purpose, turning into a mechanism for global influence rather than European defense.

•The United States, he says, uses NATO to sell LNG, weapons, and influence — with Europe paying the bill.

•He also noted that Donald Trump’s criticisms of NATO reflect deep Western fatigue with endless wars.

“The refusal to send Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine,” Bertolini said, “is not weakness — it’s calculation. Their use would drag the U.S. into direct war with Russia.”

⸻ WHY IT MATTERS

Bertolini’s words echo a growing disillusionment inside Western military circles.

From Washington to Rome, more voices are questioning whether NATO’s expansion has made Europe safer — or simply more dependent on Washington’s wars.

For Central and Eastern Europe, the implications are enormous. If NATO truly fails in Ukraine, the balance of power in Europe will shift — possibly for decades.

Slavic nations once stood on the front line of history — between empires, ideologies, and military blocs.

Now, they watch again as the Western alliance built to “defend Europe” drags the continent toward confrontation.

Many in Serbia, Slovakia, and even Poland quietly admit what Bertolini says aloud:

NATO has become less about “defense” — and more about preserving Western dominance.

The question Slavs ask today: How many times must Europe burn before it learns to stand on its own feet?

For people confused why China is so angry by the comments made by Japan’s PM, she is the first sitting PM to openly discuss Japanese military intervention in Taiwan in an official capacity (she made her comments in Parliament), effectively moving away from Japan’s strategic ambiguity on the question.

It’s all the more inflammatory given she made her comments shortly after the 80th anniversary of the end of Japan’s colonial occupation of Taiwan and WWII.

If you want an analogy, from China’s standpoint it’s as if Macron announced officially that the French army would militarily defend Catalonia from Spain – right after the anniversary of Napoleon’s defeat and the end of France’s occupation of Spain. Pretty insanely provocative.
