Israel and the U.S. appear determined to keep Gaza starving. Three weeks into the ceasefire, Israel is letting in less than 24% of the agreed aid levels — just 145 of the minimum 600 trucks per day promised. Even so, as Hamas reasserted control and dismantled Israeli-backed looting gangs, UN data shows looting has collapsed by nearly 95%.

In violation of Trump’s ceasefire deal, Israel continues starving Gaza

Since the start of the ceasefire, Israeli occupation authorities allowed entry of only 3,203 truckloads to Gaza — including 639 commercial and 2,564 aid trucks.

That means just 145 trucks per day, instead of the agreed 600only 24% compliance.

Fuel and power deliveries were even worse:

Gaza received only 115 fuel/energy trucks out of 1,100 promisedjust 10%.

Breakdown of commercial trucks:

293 food

220 mixed goods

82 clothing

23 household supplies

10 equipment

6 fuel

4 medical

1 spare-parts

These figures expose Israel’s continued blockade — restricting food, fuel, and essentials for hospitals, bakeries, and vital services.

A deliberate policy to starve and break Gaza, in blatant violation of the agreement and international humanitarian law.

Farage Is Coming for Our Human Rights

By
Jeremy Corbyn

Nigel Farage is waging a war on human rights that will strip asylum seekers of their basic protections from injustice and harm. We can’t let that happen.

Nigel Farage at a Reform UK, London, 28 October, 2025. (Leon Neal/Getty Images)

On Wednesday, Nigel Farage stood up in Parliament to try and pass legislation which, if successful, would have removed the UK from the European Convention on Human Rights. Thankfully, he was defeated.

In a typically bellicose, faux-patriotic, and inaccurate speech, Farage put rhetoric over reason. He made a number of claims about the EU, which of course was not even invented at the time of the ECHR. Producing a series of bizarre examples which he claimed showed the ECHR undermining British laws, Farage failed to acknowledge the many advantages and protections it gives us.

The ECHR came into force in the aftermath of the Second World War, to safeguard against violations of human rights. It aimed to enshrine a ‘never again’ commitment to prevent the atrocities seen under fascist regimes. Drawing inspiration from the UN’s Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the ECHR upholds basic human rights, a benchmark in every country. Many of the human rights protections people enjoy across Europe today arise from the work of the court — including the right to asylum, free speech, religion, assembly, and privacy, as well as press freedoms and protections for LGBT+ communities.

It is fundamentally wrong to suggest that the ECHR only protects the rights of people who live elsewhere in Europe. The ECHR — which is not a foreign court, but part of the legal system — has protected people in the UK from torture, unlawful killing, slavery, and arbitrary detention. Stripping individuals of a final avenue for justice when domestic courts fail, the decision to exit the the ECHR risks the rights of us all. Let us also not forget the centrality of the ECHR to the Good Friday Agreement — withdrawal would pose a needless risk to the peace process.

Let’s get serious. We know what Farage’s speech was about. He is upset that the ECHR — and the 1951 Refugee Convention — protects the human right to asylum. It was the ECHR that stopped the Rwanda scheme, we’re told. Good! That means it works: it prevents profoundly cruel and immoral policies that fail to treat refugees like human beings.

Those who arrive on our shores are not ‘boat people’. They are human beings, exercising their legal right to asylum. As Warsan Shire writes in her poem Home, ‘no one puts their children in a boat unless the water is safer than the land’. If Reform were serious about putting people smugglers out of business, they would advocate for safe routes for people seeking asylum. That is what a humane system of immigration looks like.

We are witnessing rising levels of racism in our society. I have been horrified by the protests outside migrant hotels. Imagine risking your life to make it across the Channel. And imagine ending up in a hotel, looking out of the window, and seeing a crowd of people shouting at you to ‘go home’. What has happened to our humanity when we are abusing some of the most desperate people on our planet? And do you know what? Tomorrow they’ll be our teachers, doctors, street cleaners, carers, neighbours, and friends.

The great dividers want you to think the problems in society are caused by migrants and refugees. They’re wrong. They’re caused by an economic system that protects the interests of the super-rich. That’s why 4.5 million children live in poverty. That’s why people’s water bills continue to rise. That’s why tenants in private sector flats are paying well over half their take-home pay to keep a roof over their head.

I was a member of the Council if Europe for 5 years. In my experience, the issues of human rights are taken very seriously. Yes, the ECHR needs better resources and be more efficient. There ought to be a much stronger education programme in every single one of the member states that adheres to the ECHR about what human rights mean. The danger of the current debate is that we simply throw away the huge advances we have made, and make the next generation vulnerable to the populist, dangerous rhetoric of Nigel Farage, Tommy Robinson, and the forces that are trying to turn this country into a place of division, hatred and fear.

Our message should be rather simple: human rights matter — and we are not going to let Farage take them away.

I’ve just finished @StarmertheFraud and it’s honestly one of the most shocking political books I’ve ever read. Paul Holden goes deep into how Keir Starmer and his team reshaped the Labour Party from the inside, using leaked documents and inside accounts that are hard to ignore.

What stood out to me most was how calm and detailed it is. It’s not a rant, it’s a forensic breakdown of how democracy can be twisted by people who claim to protect it. The amount of evidence he’s managed to pull together is unreal, and it completely changes how you see modern politics in Britain.

Arnaud Bertrand@RnaudBertrand

This is rare enough to be highlighted: an actually good Financial Times article on the state of the AI “race” between the U.S. and China.

Three interesting points that stood out to me:

  1. The fact that “for a general-purpose technology such as AI, long-term advantage often comes down to how widely and deeply technologies spread across society.”

This is because, at the risk of pointing the obvious, benefits from a new technology come from using it widely, not just creating it. You wouldn’t get any benefit from discovering the steam engine in and of itself: what drove productivity gains (and ultimately Britain’s advantage in the industrial revolution) was spreading and using this technology in its society.

And China has advantages here, as the article notes, since they’re unarguably better at orchestrating society-wide transformation, as that’s all they’ve been doing for the past 3 decades.

  1. The point that US semiconductors export controls actually helped China in AI since they “pushed Chinese companies towards a different playbook: pooling compute, optimising efficiency and releasing open-weight models.”

This is extremely ironic as the US effectively pushed China to develop models that are a) more efficient (since operating under constrains the U.S. doesn’t have) and b) open-source (since China has constrained compute).

Which turns out to be the better strategy for global diffusion: if you’re a company in say Germany or Brazil, you can download Qwen or Deepseek, run it locally, fine-tune it for your market, and never worry about API rate limits (and worry less about costs since the models are more efficient and you don’t have an AI unicorn taking a cut every time you run a query).

  1. The oft-ignored point of societal enthusiasm. As the article notes: “The public in China [is] the most optimistic in the world about AI — far more than in the US or the UK… Optimism can be a powerful fuel”

I often lament about this as a European: we often have a doomist take on new technologies (AI very much included), which is a huge repellent for entrepreneurship and technological diffusion. And that ultimately hurts Europe a lot in many ways, precisely because of the first point above: advantages from new technologies come down to how widely and deeply it spreads in society.

If China is the most enthusiastic country in the world about AI, this in and of itself will help drive the widespread adoption that, per point 1, is what actually matters for long-term competitive advantage.

This partition, introduced under the first phase of U.S.-brokered ceasefire in October 2025, now divides Gaza, with Israeli occupation forces maintaining control over nearly 60% of the Strip. The Israeli occupation painted yellow concrete blocks every few hundred meters to mark the new limit of its occupation, turning once-lively neighborhoods like ones in Beit Hanoun, Jabalia, and Al-Shujaiyah into a militarized no-go zone. Civilians are shot at when they attempt to go near it, even just to the rubble of their homes. This left many Palestinians wondering whether the “yellow line” will be used for further division and displacement, an attempt to bring a slow annexation unfolding under the guise of a ceasefire.

I’m excited to announce a forthcoming anthology, EVERY MOMENT IS A LIFE: GAZA IN THE TIME OF GENOCIDE, published by @OneSignalPub, and available for pre-order at any bookseller.

This book was born from a series of eight writing workshops that I held in Gaza with young people under the auspices of the Culture & Free Thought Association (CFTA) in 2024.

The collection comprises short stories from 18 talented individuals. Each is a small window into their lives as they struggle to survive a genocide.

You’ll read about waiting in line to use a shared bathroom, or to buy bread; about letting go a precious bed frame to have firewood; about childbirth, friendship, a cup of coffee by the sea, and delirium born of chaotic thoughts; about losing an aunt, rescuing clothes, mending a shoe, going from tent to tent, finding transportation, buying diapers, hiding books, and the terror of getting detained when you’re deaf; about raising someone else’s toddler; about family and a prayer to have something left.

I’m grateful to my friend, renowned author Huzama Habayeb, who edited the Arabic originals once we compiled all the stories. I’m proud of each of the wonderful writers who contributed to the book. And I’m honored to play a part in ensuring that Palestinians in Gaza tell their own stories, in their own voices, with an understanding and intimacy that no one but they possess.

Belgian MEP Mark Demesmaeker ripped the mask off:

I skip meals so my children can eat in winter.”

I am dying from cold, from lack of heating and medicine.”

These aren’t wartime metaphors. These are real letters he receives, from real people, and reflect an EU devouring its poor to feed the military-industrial beast.

The two Europes are no longer theoretical. One half shivers in silence. The other half cashes in. Rheinmetall, the German arms giant, is booming. Meanwhile, Europe’s working class is starving, stripped of heat, medicine, and dignity.

Let’s call this what it is, a continental betrayal. They said this was about defending democracy. But Europe is no longer governed. It’s collateralized. Your suffering is someone else’s stock dividend. Your pension? Gone to fund a failed counteroffensive. Your hospital budget? Redirected to buy American-made missiles.

And for what? To fight Russia, a “gas station with nukes”, that the collective might of nato still can’t beat after 19 rounds of sanctions and de facto all out war. While Russia’s economy grows, Europe shrinks. While Russia secures energy flows, Europe imports inflation. And while Russia builds trade with the Global South, Brussels builds walls around its own people.

This isn’t the EU of De Gaulle’s dream. It’s a military annex of Davos. Run by technocrats, not patriots. Legitimized by fear, not votes.

Demesmaeker’s words cut through the fog:

We must get out of the Brussels bubble.” But Brussels isn’t a bubble anymore. It’s a fortress. Guarded by lobbyists. Airlocked from reality. Impervious to the howl of hungry citizens.

They’ll send your sons to the front. They’ll send your daughters to the war factory. They’ll send your savings to Raytheon. And when it’s over, they’ll send you the bill, with interest, paid by the blood of your future generations.

What they call “resistance” is just redistribution, from the poor to the war profiteers. Europe doesn’t need more tanks. It needs justice. It needs heat, food, medicine, it needs its future back.

But there’s no money in peace. So they will drain you dry.

Russia didn’t do this to Europe. Europe did this to itself. With Davos doctrine. With imperial hubris. With the iron delusion that its own people were expendable in a war no one voted for.

The next time they say “support Ukraine,” ask them: At what cost? And to whom?

Because the people already know. They feel it in their bones. And winter is coming

IRELAND

Today, the trial of HRDs Áine Treanor, Aindriú de Buitléir and Eimear Walshe, is set to commence at Ennis Circuit Court in Ireland.

The HRDs are charged with “trespassing” under the Public Order Act and “interfering with the operation, management and security of an airport” under the Air Navigation and Transport Act 1998.

The charges were brought against the HRDs for a peaceful protest in which they entered the runway of Shannon Airport in Ireland to raise awareness of the airport’s use by the US military on 30 March 2024. If convicted, they may face a fine up to €250,000 and imprisonment of up to two years.

Front Line Defenders calls on authorities in Ireland to ensure that all charges against the HRDs are reviewed with a view to dismissal, given that their actions were peaceful and undertaken in defence of human rights.

Venezuela is the red line:

Iran, Russia, and China will not allow these jackals to open their eyes,” says Iranian journalist Hayal Muazzin

Russian State Duma Deputy Alexei Zhuravlev has confirmed the urgent delivery of Pantsir-S1 and Buk-M2E air defense systems to Venezuela, signaling Moscow’s readiness to escalate military support as a U.S. carrier group approaches.

The Immediate Threat

The New York Times reports that senior Trump advisors have prepared three offensive options against Venezuela:

– Air strikes on military bases to weaken support for Maduro

– Deployment of Navy SEALs to capture or assassinate President Maduro

– Counter-terrorism units to seize airports, oil fields, and key infrastructure

Zhuravlev emphasized Russia “does not see any obstacles” to supplying advanced weapons, including Kalibr cruise missiles. “We supply almost the entire range of weapons—from small arms to aircraft,” he stated.

A History of Covert Intervention

The crisis is further shadowed by the recent FBI manhunt for Jordan Goudreau, former U.S. Special Forces operative and CEO of Silvercorp USA. Goudreau led the failed Operation Gideon in 2020, a privately organized attempt to capture President Nicolás Maduro that ended with the arrest of his mercenaries on Venezuelan shores. His current fugitive status highlights the blurred line between U.S. government policy and private military ventures in the region.

Strategic Calculations and Diplomatic Alignments

European leaders are notably avoiding the upcoming EU-CELAC summit in Colombia, with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen among key absences. According to Bloomberg, this reflects a desire not to provoke U.S. President Donald Trump, revealing heightened Western caution as Washington adopts an increasingly aggressive stance in Latin America.

Russian Senator Alexey Pushkov has also weighed in, questioning the sincerity of U.S. National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard’s statement that the “era of regime change” is over. Noting Gabbard’s isolation in the administration, Pushkov suggested she may be playing good cop while colleagues prepare for the removal of Maduro, with opposition figure Corina Machado positioned as Washington’s preferred successor.

Regional Flashpoint

Venezuelan forces now patrol key borders with Russian-made anti-ship missiles, while U.S. airspace closures near Puerto Rico and reports of a carrier strike group moving toward the Caribbean indicate imminent operations. As Iranian journalist Hayal Muazzin, who publishes in Russian, put it: “Iran, Russia, and China will not allow these jackals to open their eyes in the region.”

The Caribbean has become a geopolitical tinderbox, with Venezuela emerging as the frontline of a new era of strategic competition—where U.S. military pressure converges with Russian, Chinese, and Iranian resolve, creating the potential for unprecedented escalation.

Zelensky wants more money, to keep his gang going. He wants to beat Russia?

In the meantime his soldiers are desperate. Desperate to get out alive.

This is a boy whose recording made it out, via Starlink. Alas, he is now dead. Zelensky does not care.

They deserve better! RIP!

A British spin-doctor working for Israeli firm Elbit, whose UK factories have been arming the genocide in Gaza, boasted she planted an evidence-free story in the Times about Palestine Action being funded by Iran, a witness tells Private Eye.

The smear helped the Starmer government justify declaring Palestine Action a terrorist groupthe first time in British history a direct-action group has been proscribed.

The Met has wasted many millions of pounds in public funds arresting pensioners for holding signs in support of Palestine Action‘s efforts to disrupt the supply of weapons from Britain to Israel.
