Manchester Labour Students have announced they are cutting ties with Labour, accusing the party of “careerism, nepotism, and capitulation to neoliberalism.”

In a strongly worded statement, the group said Labour has shown “nothing but contempt for young people” and claimed youth membership is in “collapse.”

Attack on Labour’s direction

The students said the party has “no coherent vision” for tackling the country’s crises and accused it of backing “cuts to disability support, the gutting of trans rights” and even “active participation in the genocide of Palestinians.”

They argued Labour no longer provides space for “socialists and anti-imperialists” and confirmed they will now throw their support behind the newly announced left party.

Rebranding as ‘Manchester Student Left’

The society will temporarily rename itself ‘Manchester Student Left’ while the new party works out a permanent identity this autumn.

They follow Warwick and Newcastle Labour Societies, who also recently left the party.

Rent hikes and campus anger

The statement also highlighted rising student rents in Manchester and accused the University of Manchester of “complicity in genocide” through links with Tel Aviv University.

They said students “must do everything we can to bring about the demise of this system that seeks to exploit both domestically and internationally.”

“Not about recreating Labour”

The group stressed the new left party must not simply mimic Labour, but instead “champion rank and file members” and “listen to tenant and trade unions.”

A Message to the IDF Israeli Occupation Army

I am Yousri Alghoul, a Palestinian writer, journalist, and civilian like the vast majority of Gaza’s population today, if not all of them, since you have already killed the fighters and their families.

I did not displace to the south of Gaza before, and I will not flee today. I will remain in what’s left of my house, much of which has already been destroyed. I simply can’t walk 40 kilometers on foot while there is no transportation left. You’ve destroyed the cars, buses, and trucks, even the animal-drawn carts.

I cannot carry gallons of water, household items, books, clothes, bedding, and some food just to live in the open under a sky swarming with your warplanes, the same drones and planes that don’t distinguish between a child or a woman and sit there awaiting my death, as you have done to hundreds of my people every single day. However, you kill in every brutal way imaginable: Snipers at the gates of American aid (GHF), shelling of civilian houses, burning tents, or burying children alive beneath the rubble.That is why I have decided to stay, to resist.

Even if your artillery continues raining bloodshed on innocent people in the streets and homes even if it costs me my life.

You show no regard for any human life other than your own. You are filled with a deep hatred for others, even our Christian brethren and Judaism, like all true religions, is innocent of what you do.

I will not displace to anywhere. Do what you will.

“Every village and every enemy must know that if they carry out an attack against the (settlers), they’ll pay a heavy price. They will experience curfew, siege and (landscape) shaping operations… Focusing on Al-Mughayyir… We are now going after this village”

Avi Bluth, head of the IDF Central Command, responsible for the West Bank, is explicitly ordering the collective punishment of the village of Al-Mughayyir, in “retribution” for a story that appears fabricated.

Notice how he talks about “shaping operations” – he’s referring to the nonstop bulldozing of olive groves, which has so far resulted in the destruction of at least 10,000 trees, possibly many more, some of them hundreds of years old. Making the desert blossom? More like making the blossom desert.

And anecdote about war criminal Avi Bluth: He grew up in Neveh Tzuf, a criminal West Bank settlement built on land stolen from the Palestinian villages of Deir Nidham, Nabi Salih, and Umm Safa. Its name derives from the last of these. Today, Bluth lives in the 1948 territories (AKA “Israel”), in the moshav of Nekhusha. It was built on the land of the uprooted village of Umm Burj, destroyed in 1948, and named after another nearby depopulated village, Dayr Nakhkhas

IMPORTANT: The brutal terror campaign by the Israeli army in Al-Mughayyir is almost certainly based on a child’s lie!

In the past three days, the IDF has been abusing an entire Palestinian village, where around 3,000 residents live. Al-Mughayyir, in the West Bank, has been facing a closure, curfew, nonstop raids, bulldozing of more than 10,000 olive trees (possibly many more by now, many of them ancient). Residents also endure mass abductions, beatings, home vandalism, destruction of property, and confiscation of vehicles.

Drones dropped tear gas grenades on homes, and massive army forces (hundreds of soldiers) fired tear gas and sound bombs in the streets. Journalists were expelled to prevent coverage.

Head of the IDF Central Command, in charge of the area, said explicitly that collective punishment would be used against the village.

It all started on Thursday morning. Reports claimed that a West Bank settler was shot and severely wounded in a shooting attack on recently stolen village lands. Army forces and medics arrived at the scene and found two settler kids – literally 13-year-olds – from a nearby terrorist settler “farm” next to a flipped-over ATV, possibly one of those “donated” by the Israeli state to the so-called “farms”. One of the kids was lightly injured. Not by a bullet.

The “farms” effectively function as militia bases – settler militias, mostly consisting of the infamous “Hilltop Youth”, whose operation and existence are now completely intertwined with those of the army.

The kids told the first responders a very far-fetched story: They claimed that an armed “terrorist” was waiting for them in the bushes and had tried to shoot them, but his gun jammed. Instead, he supposedly started hitting them (while they were driving?!) and during the struggle with him the ATV flipped over. It seems extremely likely that the kids were just embarrassed about flipping the ATV over, or simply wanted to use the opportunity to cause harm to Palestinians. The injuries – which were, again, mild – probably came from the accident.

The whole story seems completely made up. Yet those children’s words were enough for their Hilltop Youth friends, and their supporters, to call for “revenge” against Al-Mughayyir, and for the army to launch an all-out assault on the village, collective punishment on an unprecedented scale.

The army now claims it caught the “attacker” and the gun he allegedly used. They most likely just picked out some random guy and found a gun (or a planted one) in one of the houses. They don’t need to back up their claims since literally no one scrutinizes them. In any case, despite supposedly having “solved the case”, the terror campaign against the village continues.

I have written a book titled “Pages from a Tent in the Gaza War”, and now I’m sharing with you the fifteenth day from this book.

Day Fifteen – The Waiting Line for Aid

Today, I stood for hours in a long line where aid was being distributed. People from every corner of Gaza were gathered — men, women, children, and the elderly — each one carrying the same hope: to receive a small bag of flour, a few cans of food, maybe a little oil or sugar.

The line stretched endlessly, and the sun beat down on us. Children cried from thirst, mothers tried to calm them, and old men leaned on sticks, too tired to stand but refusing to give up. Around us, the sound of drones hovered as if even our hunger was being watched.

When my turn finally came, I received a small parcel. It wasn’t enough for long, but in times like these, every grain matters. I walked back to the tent carrying it like treasure, knowing that tonight my children would eat.

That day reminded me that dignity is the first casualty of war. To stand in line for hours, begging for food we once bought freely, is a wound no bomb can match. And yet, in the faces of those waiting beside me, I saw resilience — the unspoken promise that even hunger will not break us.
