Scott Ritter: Ukraine Negotiations Failed

Scott Ritter is a former intelligence officer in the US Marine Corps & a former UN Weapons Inspector. Ritter outlines why the negotiations to end the Ukraine War will fail.

Transkripzioa:

0:00

um hi everyone and welcome i am joined today by Scott Ritterder a former intelligence officer and major in the

0:07

United States Marine Corps and also a UN weapons inspector so uh welcome to the

0:13

program thanks for having me uh so we see now that the US uh well at least

0:19

appears to be pushing for negotiations with both Russia and all across the

0:25

Middle East uh at least with uh Israel uh less certain uh but at least with

0:32

Iran um but I thought we could maybe start with um Ukraine because uh well

0:38

Washington argues now that the Ukrainians Europeans and Russians they must uh put forward proposals otherwise

0:45

the United States will simply walk away it’s unclear if it means that the United

0:50

States will al also cut its weapon supply intelligence and logistics uh but

0:55

as we see Russia has very high demands the Ukrainians and Europeans do not seem to be willing to move at all and uh I

1:04

guess it begs the question is there a deal to be made here to begin with well what’s curious is um I mean you know

1:11

first of all we have to commend the Trump administration for even talking with the Russians uh this is a major

1:16

step forward compared to the posture taken by the Biden administration prior

1:22

which had basically cut off all diplomatic relations um so the Trump

1:27

administration you know gets uh applause at least from me for uh willing to

1:32

engage um and the other interesting aspect is early on in this engagement the Trump

1:39

administration uh seemed to acknowledge the need to embrace reality not um

1:45

posture politically uh they dropped the pretense of um you know trying to say

1:51

that this was a war begun by Russia that Russia invaded Ukraine uh instead they

1:56

they began to speak about the reality of the situation that NATO expansion was a

2:03

large driver for this war uh and that Zalinski bore a great deal of

2:08

responsibility for this conflict uh and you know the president and many of those

2:14

advising him um you know insinuated that um if they were Vladimir Putin they

2:20

would have done the same thing that they feel that Russia had every right to act in its self-defense

2:25

um in engaging in the special military operation uh Senator or excuse me um

2:32

Secretary of State Marco Rubio um even went so far as to publicly state that this is a war between the United States

2:41

and Russia with Ukraine as the proxy uh the United States has also

2:47

acknowledged NATO’s role uh and Europe’s role in this conflict so when I the

2:53

reason why I wanted to set that up is um why suddenly does the United States

3:00

believe that Russia has to act as if it is the party

3:05

that has done something wrong and therefore must make concessions um you know the the United States you

3:13

know has Donald Trump has criticized uh Zalinski uh rightfully I believe um and

3:20

has indicated that Ukraine needs to make some steps but the United States hasn’t

3:25

taken the same tone towards Europe it’s as if Europe had nothing to do with the European with the Ukrainian conflict as

3:32

as if NATO had nothing to do with this conflict uh and this is the

3:37

mistake europe and Ukraine must make all of the concessions because Europe and

3:42

Ukraine are singularly responsible for this conflict russia will make no

3:48

concessions because Russia is the agrieved party moreover Russia is the

3:54

victor in this war there’s no one who is a serious analyst today who can

3:59

postulate the possibility of Ukrainian military victory russia has the strategic advantage and every indicator

4:06

is that Russia will retain the strategic advantage therefore any expectation on

4:12

the part of the United States that Russia must make concessions to Europe

4:17

and to Ukraine are ridiculous on their face and unrealistic and simply won’t happen russia has clearly articulated

4:25

its position and it’s up to the United States if it wants to bring it into this conflict to get Europe and Ukraine on

4:33

board otherwise I don’t think Russia cares if the United States walks away i

4:38

I want to remind everybody that Russia didn’t invite America to the party as as Secretary of State Rubio

4:44

indicated America is on the other side the wrong side the enemy america has been fighting against the Russians using

4:51

Ukraine as a proxy so suddenly for Donald Trump to to walk in and say I’m

4:56

the peacemaker in order to do that he has to divorce himself from the failed

5:02

policies of the past which he has tried to do but um he he can’t pretend that

5:08

the United States holds any moral authority here we helped start this war

5:13

we definitely sustained this war and Russia is not obligated to give us

5:19

anything well yeah I think certainly this is uh well the greatest contribution by Trump

5:25

because I think the all of NATO espe well under Biden administration and still the Europeans they locked

5:31

themselves into this corner by all committing to this narrative that was an unprovoked invasion it had nothing to do

5:36

with NATO uh again under this narrative there’s no room for negotiations as uh

5:41

you know Russia just wanted a territory you know we used the language of appeasement and couldn’t get through a

5:46

sentence without bringing up Hitler so I think yeah this is the the main contribution because once you recognize

5:53

it was provoked this is a conflict as you said Marco Rubio said between NATO

5:58

and Russia then you have something to negotiate about you can find a peace but

6:03

uh but I I picked up on the same thing as you i didn’t notice where the if we do recognize that we that is NATO

6:10

countries are participant how do we end the How do we enter into this negotiations because I saw the same with

6:17

Kellogg’s uh proposal i mean he says the Ukrainians have to do this Russians this and then we have a ceasefire but now a

6:24

ceasefire is a bit strange without political settlement it’s a bit strange

6:30

uh solution but nonetheless why why wasn’t there any demands on the Europeans not to send weapons in during

6:37

a ceasefire why not you know the Europeans aren’t allowed to send any troops inside why why are we why is NATO

6:43

suddenly still this innocent third party which is just you know wanting to help Ukraine it is a bit strange and uh it

6:50

also yeah takes me to my question which is why is the United States doing more we we seem to be putting all this

6:56

pressure on Silinski to accept that uh they will not join NATO but why do they

7:03

have a vote this is they’re not part of NATO there’s no it’s not possible for the United

7:08

States to say you know okay we’re going to sign a deal that Ukraine will never

7:13

be part of NATO why and you know NATO should not put troops in Ukraine why

7:19

it’s as if NATO can’t help it it’s just you know this unstoppable force and so

7:24

Russia has to make a deal with the Ukrainians but this is NATO why Why can’t NATO make a deal with the Russians

7:32

i think Donald Trump is a prisoner of his own history um remember this is his second term his first term started eight

7:40

years ago um and his first term was marked by Donald Trump

7:47

um expanding American military assistance to Ukraine uh the you know

7:53

the the the military training that began in 2015 uh you know honchoed by the United

8:00

States uh brought in NATO um this training was specifically in support of

8:06

a mission statement that had uh the United States and NATO training the

8:11

Ukrainian army building the Ukrainian army up to NATO standards and preparing

8:16

it to launch a war of liberation of the Donbas and Crimea uh specifically this

8:23

army was being trained to fight the Russians donald Trump inherited this and expanded upon it um he knew what the

8:30

mission was he he didn’t there was no pretense that what we were doing was about the defense of NATO donald Trump

8:37

today brags I gave them offensive weapons he says I gave them off why why

8:43

would you give them offensive weapons and one thing that nobody talks about is the construction of 20 CIA bases inside

8:52

Ukraine this was done under Donald Trump what was the mission statement of these

8:58

bases to hold hands and sing Kumbaya to learn how to sing Kushka um maybe Moscow

9:05

nights no it was to carry out covert operations against Russia in support of

9:11

a strategic posture by the United States that sought the strategic defeat of Russia using Ukraine as a proxy donald

9:18

Trump is the man behind this policy and to get this policy in place uh the

9:24

United States under Trump worked with NATO to generate support and worked with

9:30

Ukraine to create a consensus policy direction designed to create a conflict

9:37

to undermine Russia to bring down Vladimir Putin donald Trump’s a prison this is Donald Trump’s war no matter how

9:44

much he wants to say Joe Biden’s war the fact of the matter is Trump created all

9:49

of the preconditions to this conflict trump did so now today Trump is a

9:55

prisoner of this reality um and I think he doesn’t want to talk about it too much because he runs the risk of people

10:02

raising their hand and raising um inconvenient truth so what Trump has done is broken his team into two parts

10:11

one part of it is the Keith Kellogg part i think Mike Waltz is on this side these

10:16

are the pro-NATO very sympathetic to Ukraine people these are the people that have

10:22

been in that camp from day one who still believe ultimately the American mission should be to use Ukraine to bring down

10:28

Russia then on the other side he has the people that are supportive of the

10:34

policies that he are articulating bringing an end to the conflict normalizing relations with uh with

10:40

Russia i might say that Marco Rubio was in that first camp as well but the second camp this is where you get the

10:46

Pete Hexaths you get the JD Vances um you you get a new name that’s emerged

10:52

Steve Wickoff um a man who prior to this iteration of the Trump administration

10:58

nobody knew about and today he’s one of the most accomplished diplomats in the world u you know doing Kissingerian type

11:05

uh you know shuttle diplomacy and I say that with praise i mean I’m I’m in awe

11:11

of what what Kauf is doing uh and I admire what he’s doing and I hope that he succeeds but Trump has created this

11:18

bipolar national security team that’s at war with itself um they’re out there

11:24

there is no discipline in terms of messaging right now you can get Wikov to meet with Putin and say one thing then

11:30

immediately you have Kellogg go on TV and say something completely different so basically we have a Ukrainian policy

11:37

that’s war with itself and this leads to dysfunction because how do you expect

11:43

Europe to what are what are they supposed to align themselves to which

11:48

wing of the Trump party um and what they do is they gravitate around that which expresses sympathy for their point of

11:55

view which is the Kellogg Rubio Mike Waltz um you know center of gravity um

12:02

and hopes that this other center of gravity under Woodco and everybody you know falls in on them instead of the

12:09

other way around and if Trump doesn’t fix this if he doesn’t exercise you know executive control over this it’s a

12:16

policy that’s doomed to fail now the good news is if there’s any good news is I think

12:23

that the this Ukrainian peace initiative um is going to collapse i don’t have

12:28

confidence in the Trump team to pull it together but I think that Trump’s strategic divi uh vision of having

12:34

better relations with Russia will survive that Trump will walk away from this Ukraine conflict and in doing so

12:42

walk away from Ukraine and walk away from NATO meaning that he’s going to let Ukraine and NATO stew in their own

12:48

juices russia will have to do the hard lifting the heavy lifting and finish

12:54

this job militarily and at some point in time Ukraine is going to have to accept terms

13:01

of surrender they’re going to be far harsher than the terms that are currently put on the table and NATO will be in a far more um difficult position

13:09

uh having been embarrassed uh without any American backs stop uh in US-Russian relations I think will

13:16

um will develop um we will develop uh

13:21

strategic alignment on um on some critical issues um we’re not going to be best friends but I I think we’re going

13:29

to be in a position where uh we treat each other with respect we recognize um

13:34

respective areas of interest and um we try to get out of each other’s way when it comes to China

13:42

well uh yes one thing that confused me a bit was the content of this uh peace

13:48

they’re pushing because it seemed as if um the deal the United States was

13:53

pushing forward to the Ukrainians was all focused around Crimea and uh this

13:58

was uh yeah a bit strange to me because the the Russians they kind of put their demands very clear and they repeat them

14:04

over and over we want you know neutrality for Ukraine and also territorial concessions for the

14:09

territories that were lost in the war but uh but why why is Crimea i heard talks about reducing sanctions but the

14:17

Russians didn’t ask for it they asked for you know they’re focusing a lot on Crimea uh recognizing Crimea but the

14:23

Russians didn’t really ask for this either why is this the seemingly the central focus of talks

14:31

okay I’m going to answer the question because I thought about this too but there’s this pool of speculation so I

14:36

need to acknowledge that upfront this is just my assessment yeah I think that’s all we have now because we haven’t

14:43

explained this so yeah when when I take a look at the statements made by um Donald Trump and his administration but

14:50

especially Trump you know it’s very important although sometimes frustrating to read his social media

14:57

postings because they just they’re confusing but on Crimea he

15:06

spends an awful lot of time criticizing Ukraine and Obama he

15:14

says that Ukraine lost this under Obama not me under Obama and Ukraine why

15:20

didn’t you even fire a shot in defense of this you let the Russians take over but you didn’t defend it now you want us

15:26

to back a war to reconquer it this is Obama’s fault this is your fault it’s

15:31

not my fault i have to deal with the reality and the reality is that Ukraine

15:37

that Russia owns Crimea and it is Russian and it’s going to be Russian and you’re never going to get it back

15:43

see he can say these things because it deflects all responsibility off of him

15:48

and that’s the important thing that’s why he’s singularly focused on Crimea because his hands aren’t dirty but if

15:55

Trump turns around and gives up Keros Zaparisia

16:00

Donetsu Lugansk then the fault is with him it’s

16:05

Trump that’s done the giveaway it’s Trump that gave it up with a single shot and so Trump is creating this

16:12

alternative reality of trying to blame everybody else but him trying to create a piece where he is it with no fault uh

16:20

etc and it doesn’t matter that Witoff keeps coming back to him going “Hey boss uh the Russians are saying they uh no

16:27

all of those territories belong to them and they’re they’re not giving them back constitutionally you know

16:33

impossible we’re we’re going to have to give it to them.” Crimea Babas I’m trying to tell you there’s four other

16:38

territories there crimea Crime trump only hears what he wants to hear he only says what he wants to say and this is

16:45

why ultimately these negotiations will fail because Trump isn’t willing to take

16:50

a leadership position it would be the easiest thing in the world

16:55

literally to get Europe to fold and get Ukraine to fold um Ukraine would be more

17:02

difficult because there are some hardliners in there i think you know to be honest uh it’s a death sentence for

17:08

Zillinsky if he accepts anything that Trump has tried to put in but Zalinsky had a death penalty on his head for a

17:13

long time now for what he’s done um ultimately Ukraine isn’t going to

17:19

survive this conflict there’s there’s no scenario under which Ukraine does

17:24

survive this conflict and so you would have to get Europe basically to say

17:29

“Ukraine’s done yield it to Russia it’s a Russian problem let the Russians solve this problem um and American leadership

17:36

could do that because what we would have to do is is convince Europe that we draw the line at Ukraine that there will be

17:44

no other um you know Russian adventures uh Russia will not be going into Muldova

17:51

russia will not be threatening the the Baltic states u we could make these

17:56

state because Russia doesn’t want to threaten these stations these this is an easy posture for the United States to

18:01

take because it literally costs us nothing and it goes handinand glove with our attempt to better relations but

18:08

we’re not doing that we’ve allowed the Europeans to attach value to Ukraine

18:14

psychological value moral value economic value that simply doesn’t exist ukraine

18:20

is literally the you know the pit that you throw money into and it just keeps

18:28

you you can’t fix good american leadership could get Europe to walk away from Ukraine and America could shoulder

18:34

the blame it’s easy to do because that one all Trump has to do is say “Nah this

18:40

is Obama and Biden’s fault.” And he has a MAGA base here in America that would accept that but he’s

18:47

not willing to do that he does because his team is split and he has this pro- European team he needs to either fire or

18:56

absor you know convince the other the European team to you know unify with the

19:02

Trump team if he could get Europe to back away from Ukraine then this conflict will end it means the end of

19:09

Ukraine i can’t come up with a single scenario where a sovereign Ukraine state

19:14

emerges from this conflict russia simply won’t allow it to happen

19:20

it is interesting with Trump though when the stock markets goes down it’s Biden’s economy when it goes back up it’s a

19:26

Trump economy it’s a Yeah he does nice world it’s a nice world he’s created for

19:32

himself yeah it’s very comfortable and there’s no responsibility there but uh uh well when you look at the Europeans

19:39

though they they don’t seem to well so far accept much at all they keep saying they want an unconditional ceasefire

19:46

which appears to be code for let’s not talk about political settlement uh they’re talking about European

19:51

peacekeepers although they seem to recognize they can’t scrape together more than 25,000 uh but uh but I think

20:00

for for many of them they’re looking at this whole thing and wondering well what is Trump actually going to do is he going to walk away or not because he’s

20:07

not walking away we can just continue to drag this on but uh is is there any other way that Trump

20:13

can get some cooperation from the Europeans to end the war besides uh

20:18

threatening and act I guess he will have to actually walk away from the war as well i I I think again this is where

20:26

American leadership comes in i I can’t speak for Donald Trump and I can’t claim to know what’s going on uh behind closed

20:34

doors i believe that there is a desire on the part of the Trump administration to

20:39

disentangle the United States from this European nightmare because it

20:44

is a nightmare europe is an absolute nightmare i apologize i know you’re part of Europe uh but I I I struggle to

20:54

see the viability of of the European Union experiment um I see Europe

21:00

fracturing on so many different fault lines i I I I I I I don’t see um you

21:07

know continuity of purpose um and I also don’t see Europe being able to have a

21:15

single vision on not just economic issues but military issues how to create this the only thing that allows Europe

21:22

to speak cohesively militarily is NATO um and NATO can only exist if the United

21:28

States is a willing and meaningful party to NATO so

21:36

Trump is talking about disentangling himself from this but the

21:41

um if you want to if you don’t want to divorce completely from Europe even

21:47

though that might be attractive to people like me it’s not a realistic policy we don’t we’re not going to

21:52

divorce ourselves from Europe there’s too much history there there’s too much economic alignment and and frankly

21:58

speaking um the United States still has

22:04

very much a European heart meaning that we as a na land of immigrants we still derive

22:12

mo most of our cultural and ethnic and historic links to the European continent

22:17

so we’re not going to divorce from Europe um so I think Trump needs to be

22:22

very clear about how he sees America’s role in Europe going forward

22:28

um what I would say is if I were advising them is that we need to assure

22:34

the Europeans that we are not going to leave NATO that NATO will continue to exist and America will continue to be

22:42

the strategic backs stop for Europe but that NATO will become an exclusively

22:47

defensive organization that the day of trying to project NATO power into the Pacific into

22:54

North Africa into the Middle East is over nato must be 100% defensive

22:59

oriented and that the defense that we build must be um you know shaped in

23:09

accordance with the reality of the threat and since the United States is the NATO leader since we are your backs

23:15

stop we are making peace with Russia so NATO must size itself accordingly you

23:21

are not at war with Russia you are not to prepare for war against Russia your

23:27

military should not be designed to defeat Russia on the battlefield that’s it we will make you professional we will

23:34

sharpen things up we’ll improve you guys will be cutting edge and if anybody attacks you you’ll be able to defend

23:40

yourself but the day of NATO defining itself as a bull work against Russian

23:45

expansion must end and if you’re not willing to accept

23:51

this we’re done with you and if we leave you we leave you in its entirety it will

23:57

be all upon you and you can’t afford to do this you don’t have the economic capacity you don’t have the unified

24:05

vision you will fail so it’s your choice uh if you want us to do this

24:12

leadership position you must divorce yourself from Ukraine that is finished

24:18

um and then I would also tell the European Union you need to stop

24:25

this trend towards European

24:30

autocracy you have to allow nations to express themselves

24:36

democratically and if a if Hungary decides that that has a certain aspect of sovereignty that must be respected if

24:43

Romania decides that must be respected but the day of the European Union going

24:48

in and interfering with the domestic internal politics of its constituent

24:54

members must end because the United States will not tolerate this and the

24:59

reason why we’re going to I I would insist on doing this isn’t because the United States believes in democracy because we know the United States

25:05

doesn’t believe in democracy it’s a mechanism of control um because if we’re

25:11

going to maintain this level of military involvement we have to ensure that Europe never gets us inadvertently into

25:18

another conflict because the the strategic goal isn’t to double down on Europe it’s to disentangle from Europe

25:24

so if we’re to stay in NATO we have to make sure that we have the political ability to keep Europe from becoming a

25:32

monster uh and you can only do that by encouraging individual nations to

25:38

express their sovereign rights and prevent Europe from coming together as a as a

25:44

singularity that makes a lot of sense but uh yeah well Trump seems to be

25:51

on that track though he um yeah takes a very negative view of the European Union

25:56

uh I guess Elon Musk even more vocal in his disdain for that uh block uh by um

26:05

but you you mentioned earlier the Ukraine the Silinski might you know not be able to pull off a deal without being

26:12

yeah I guess killed uh I guess is a reference to the nationalist because again they’ve had tremendous uh

26:20

power since 2014 uh but is there any other obstacles

26:26

i mean with with the legal issues there might be problems of course Alinsky opposing everything you have

26:33

um uh you who who do you talk to i mean

26:39

this is going to be very difficult for any Ukrainian to to accept do do you see

26:45

it as any possibility of any deal being made or do they have or will they first

26:51

come to the negotiation table once the like collapse have begun when they lose control over their armed forces uh how

26:58

do you because I I just can’t see the nationalist being willing to negotiate

27:04

on anything i mean they’re they’re yeah they’re very determined well I

27:11

mean I think in you know late 1944 early 1945 uh there were a large number of you

27:20

know SS formations in the German uh military uh a lot of Nazi paramilitary

27:26

entities uh party loyalists who were saying we will never surrender and yet

27:32

in May they they had been defeated um I don’t mean to be too harsh here but if you’re a Ukrainian nationalist your

27:38

future is grim and you need to be told this you’re going to die you either die

27:45

on the battlefield or you’ll be executed for the crimes you have committed there is no sympathy here you don’t get a

27:50

second chance if you haven’t committed crimes worthy of the death penalty you are going to be arrested prosecuted and

27:56

you’re going to spend a hell of a lot of time in jail and if your crimes aren’t that much we can rehabilitate you and

28:02

try to reintegrate you into lower elements of society but you will never be in a power position this is your

28:10

fate and we have to just That’s what denoxification is this is what the Russians are saying to me and to other

28:17

people this is the harsh reality so the nationalists can posture all they want

28:22

they’re going to die just like the Nazis died or they can

28:28

go into diaspora maybe the West will be a willing recipient for a you know fifth wave of Ukrainian uh immigration where

28:35

we can bring all the Nazis over here and let them go to summer camp down here in uh in Ellenville and uh you know they

28:42

can they can get government funded uh you know synicures etc whatever but

28:47

within Ukraine they’re dead that’s the reality i don’t know why

28:53

people are pretending otherwise um you know the the Waffan SS talked big up

28:58

until the when they were dead when they were defeated and Russia is on track to

29:03

defeating these nationalists on the battlefield but part of the denazification process which Russia is

29:09

not walking away from is constitutional changes in the government the government will be replaced zalinsky is not the

29:17

future of Ukraine and governments sympathetic to Zalinsky aren’t the future of Ukraine if you have ever taken

29:24

a photograph smiling with Stefon Bandera’s portrait on the wall behind

29:31

you you will not be part of the political future of Ukraine yes I’m speaking to you General

29:37

Zillusi you Ukrainian nationalist son of a and all of the other guys out

29:43

there who have embraced this odious ideology and I apologize for swearing but I have no sympathy for these people

29:49

none whatsoever there’s nothing attractive about their ideology there there’s nothing that can be

29:54

misconstrued about what they’re trying to do these are hatefilled ultraists

30:00

these are white supremacists who view anybody outside of their little you know

30:05

specifically defined clique as subhumans you know what they say about the Russians what they call the Russians

30:12

and how they treat the Russians the Poles know how they treat the Poles the Gypsies know how they treat the gypsies

30:18

the Jews should know how they treat the Jews and yet we’re supposed to express

30:24

sympathy for these people we’re supposed to say “Well we must find a place for them their place is under the ground or

30:31

in prison or in exile but their future is not part of Ukraine.”

30:36

And I again I can’t speak for the Russian government but I’ve been listening to Russian government

30:43

officials speak and I believe that what I’m saying is reflective of the reality

30:50

of the policies they’re planning in a postconlict Ukraine they will not

30:56

allow the scourge of Nazi ideology manifested in

31:02

the form of Stean Bandera’s odious take on life to continue to exist

31:11

yeah no I’ve been yeah hearing similar things so it’s uh you’re probably on

31:17

track there um I wanted to switch uh gears a little bit towards the Middle

31:23

East cuz of course there’s negotiations being had there as well well I guess a very broad question is do you think the

31:30

genocide in Gaza can be stopped or it’s um I guess I’m not sure how one

31:37

would assess this is the uh Trump putting any weight or leaning on

31:44

Netanyahu or do you see none of this being possible or do you see the um yeah

31:50

any realities on the ground compelling the Israelis to yeah to stop the killing

32:02

of course the genocide can stop it takes one phone call from the president of United States to make the genocide stop

32:09

and we proved that in the past steve Witco’s initial visit to the region resulted in a ceasefire because the

32:16

president wanted a ceasefire even though Netanyahu didn’t want a ceasefire we imposed it on them but the president has

32:26

to live in a world defined by reality

32:32

and I I’m not happy about what I’m about to say but it’s the truth the pro-Israeli

32:39

pro-Zionist lobby had exercises unprecedented

32:44

amounts of political influence and control here in the United States so much so that it’s almost impossible to

32:50

get elected it’s impossible to get elected to senior office if you don’t take a pro-Israeli

32:57

stance um this president in campaigning uh took a very pro-Israeli stance uh and

33:04

this president has surrounded himself with probably the most pro-Israeli cabinet and um you know and subordinate

33:12

officials um more so than any other president in modern history more so than even Joe

33:17

Biden who called himself a Zionist um so

33:23

this this is a reality the president has to deal with now how do you deal with this reality and this is where it gets

33:30

sad because we don’t care about the Palestinian people we being the United

33:37

States collective yes we have people in the United States including myself who do care about the Palestinian people we

33:43

have protesters out there doing heroic work because they are paying a heavy price

33:48

uh we have people less heroic like myself who don’t participate in the um in the protest because I don’t want to

33:54

get arrested and uh you know but I write and I get shut down and I get attacked and I get you know it’s not easy taking

34:02

a stance in support of Palestine um and a stance against Israel um but even

34:08

despite all that we’re not moving the needle at all because nothing we’re doing is impacting Donald Trump so

34:17

now the reality is Trump doesn’t care about the Palestinians he’s willing to sacrifice them and support of a larger

34:26

policy objective trump just like he needs to disentangle

34:31

himself from Europe needs to disentangle himself from the Middle East we cannot get bogged down in these decadesl long

34:40

wars that cost us trillions of dollars and divert significant economic and military and political resources to a

34:47

region his number one focus is China and he needs to create a world scenario that

34:55

allows him to singularly focus on China without the threat of something destabilizing happen this is why he’s

35:01

going to abandon the Ukraine conflict from hell or high water we’re not staying involved in Ukraine because our

35:08

focus is China and Ukraine is a distraction and this is why he’s going to try to negotiate a peace an agreement

35:17

a nuclear agreement with Iran so that we can it’ll be an agreement that doesn’t

35:22

have clauses which create the potential for conflict down the road this will be a final agreement this will be the

35:29

agreement that’s that gives Iran the ability to have a nuclear enrichment program inspected um but the the

35:36

prospect of military action is going to be taken off the table because we don’t want to go to war with

35:41

Iran israel does so when you say can Trump say no to Netanyahu yes he can but

35:48

politically he has to have a pressure relief valve that compensates for the

35:54

angst that peace with Iran is going to cause in that pressure relief valve is Gaza and he’s going to give Israel the

36:01

green light to do whatever the hell they want to do in Gaza to bomb Beirut to maneuver in into Syria you can do all

36:09

that because that doesn’t require American military support iran requires a tremendous

36:16

amount of military support which we don’t want to do so I think we’re going to make peace

36:21

with Iran tell Israel to get where it needs to be on Gaza and then bring it into the

36:29

fighting and get the hoodie to stop interdicting shipping and then we leave

36:34

and we go to the Pacific i think that’s strategic vision of Trump but

36:40

unfortunately it means that the Palestinians are going to be sacrificed yet again yet again we’re going

36:47

to say words about humanity that we don’t mean we are turning a blind eye to genocide we are creating a situation

36:53

United States where it’s becoming illegal to criticize Israel in the land of the free the home of the brave where

36:59

free speech is supposed to reign supreme it’s now going to be illegal to speak

37:04

out against Israel um this shows you again the control that the pro-Israeli

37:10

lobby has on um on the United States this is strange the supporting genocide

37:18

aok okay but uh protesting it that’s where the law comes down but uh well uh

37:23

well my last question was if you think Netanyahu would permit peace with Iran but I guess you answered his question he

37:30

has no choice he has no choice he’s not a shot caller here israel cannot attack Iran on its own valition it doesn’t have

37:37

the military capacity to initiate and sustain meaningful military strikes against Iran and given Iran’s

37:45

demonstrated conventional ballistic missile deterrence Israel will pay

37:50

perhaps a fatal price for initiating an attack against Iran that doesn’t decapitate its leadership and eliminate

37:56

the totality of its capabilities and so if the United States isn’t willing to

38:02

align itself with Israel there’s nothing Netanyahu can do there’s nothing Netanyahu can do

38:10

well Scott Ritter thank you so much for your time it’s been very very interesting as uh there’s so much uh I

38:17

guess Trump does it on purpose the strategic ambiguity which he implements into his negotiation tactics so it’s

38:24

easy to get confused so yeah thank you again it keeps us employed so

38:31

okay well thank you thanks for inviting me have a great day thanks again
