Exactly right. ALL government spending is taxation.
The government either taxes you directly or, by increasing the money supply, taxes you through inflation.

Tranaskripzioa:
0:00
businesses were closing down people are
0:02
leaving the country we’ve got the
0:03
highest rate of millionaires leaving the
0:05
country of any country in the world and
0:07
what labor seem hellbent on doing is
0:09
making it even worse yeah so putting the
0:12
taxes up by 35 billion making the Net
0:16
Zero rules so tough that it kills
0:19
business because they can’t get cheap
0:21
energy and we’ve seen the steel industry
0:23
go under we’re seeing ref allegedly Kama
0:26
was overheard speaking privately with
0:28
important corporate backers he allegedly
0:30
laid out plans to align labor party
0:32
policy with the interests of influential
0:34
International corporations during these
0:36
talks all the while portraying himself
0:39
in public as a workingclass Defender
0:42
even more startling was the tape that
0:44
showed starma acknowledging covert
0:46
agreements with conservative leaders
0:48
that ensured particular policy results
0:51
now before we continue engaging our
0:53
contents Keeps Us motivated sadly not a
0:55
lot of viewers do that and it literally
0:57
costs nothing please subscribe to our
1:00
channel to keep us motivated to keep
1:01
bringing you news like this like and
1:04
comment too now back to the video K’s
1:07
latest balls UPS uh there’s always so
1:10
many to choose from aren’t there well
1:12
first of all never here K has been in
1:14
Norway for some kind of reason that no
1:17
one can quite work out but he’s been
1:19
droning on about carbon capture uh
1:23
that’s that nonsense that doesn’t work
1:24
that Labor’s barmy Britain is
1:26
nevertheless wasting 22 billion pounds
1:29
on uh so he wants to hook up these
1:32
disclosures undermined starmer’s
1:33
leadership and his meticulously
1:35
constructed Progressive image betraying
1:37
the core of Labor’s objective if
1:40
accurate the implications were severe in
1:43
addition to deceiving his party starma
1:45
had betrayed his supporters in order to
1:47
gain influence and power this shocking
1:50
Revelation proved to be the decisive
1:52
Factor validating concerns that starma
1:55
had been engaging in Risky political
1:57
manipulation all along now that the
1:59
truth was known everyone was asking
2:01
themselves could Kia starmer’s career
2:04
come to an end as a result of this
2:06
Scandal actually everything they don’t
2:07
they haven’t seemed to have done
2:08
anything that seems to be very popular
2:10
yeah I me I think TR I mean trust is key
2:13
I think he just lost trust you just know
2:15
that whenever he says something come out
2:16
of his mouth you know he’s telling poies
2:18
and you know you can’t trust the word
2:19
that he’s saying um he seems to be a bit
2:22
of an automaton so it’s even as if
2:24
someone has programmed him to say what
2:26
he’s got to say he deflects any
2:28
questions and then says it again
2:30
you know it’s just there’s no the labor
2:32
leader is at the focus of an immense
2:35
storm in what is expected to be one of
2:37
the most explosive moments in British
2:40
politics this year his leadership has
2:43
been rocked by the bombshell exposure
2:47
made during a live TV broadcast which
2:49
has led to widespread calls for his
2:52
immediate resignation but this excuse
2:54
doesn’t really wash so these local
2:56
elections were seen as a referendum on K
2:59
arm’s government he’s currently the most
3:01
unpopular prime minister of modern times
3:04
in an approval rating of somewhere in
3:05
the region ofus 61 and this graph
3:09
actually shows just how quickly his
3:11
popularity has nose dived he is sinking
3:14
like the Titanic and labor are fearful
3:17
of a Monumental kicking in May a tent
3:20
interview on a prime time political talk
3:22
show was where the drama started starma
3:25
who has been in charge of Labor since
3:27
2020 sat down for what was supposed used
3:29
to be a standard conversation with
3:32
knowledgeable experts in the field but
3:34
when the shocking revelations were made
3:37
by a top investigative known for their
3:39
non-nonsense style the tone completely
3:42
changed and that’s what we responded to
3:45
on the national hero as the country
3:47
deals with the aftermath starmer’s
3:49
leadership is in shambles leaving the
3:51
labor party at a Crossroads one of the
3:54
most well-known political Personalities
3:56
in Britain continues to be concerned
3:58
about his future don’t forget also that
4:01
the entire cabinet every single member
4:04
of Kia’s remainer cabinet is a
4:08
passionate remainer there’s not a single
4:10
voice to stand up for brexit in that
4:13
cabinet uh so they have convinced
4:15
themselves that what we the people of
4:17
Britain want is to go back on what we
4:19
decided in
4:20
2016 and rejoin uh the Europe Club well
4:24
I don’t know about you the journalist’s
4:26
disclosure of Highly confidential
4:28
internal labor documents that exposed a
4:31
string of controversial private meetings
4:33
and decisions involving Kia starma was
4:36
the first bombshell according to these
4:38
records starma had engaged in backdoor
4:41
transactions with influential party
4:43
members and corporate funders who had
4:46
been pushing policies that were more in
4:47
line with establishment interests than
4:50
the workingclass ideals that laborhood
4:52
traditionally supported I don’t if
4:54
they’ve done it but it’s an ni so and he
4:56
is the lowest approval rating in modern
4:59
history at this stage of his Premiership
5:01
after 5 months whopping six in 10 people
5:04
said they were dissatisfied that’s
5:06
putting it politely with the prime
5:07
minister’s record including more than a
5:09
third nearly 40% actually of Labor
5:11
voters yeah is just me because he’s
5:13
affected a lot of Labor voters withut
5:16
the heating bills and um farming Dharma
5:19
allegedly negotiated compromises on
5:21
Labor’s most Progressive ideas diluting
5:25
them to please big money backers
5:27
according to the stunning disclosures
5:30
what had formerly seemed to be a leader
5:31
dedicated to bringing the party together
5:33
and promoting social justice now seemed
5:36
to be a front for his actual political
5:38
activities the journalist underlined
5:40
that starmer’s labor perspective was
5:42
being Guided by influential insiders a
5:45
claim that was not new but Now supported
5:48
by hard data good evening are we living
5:52
in a Kier starma dictatorship rumors
5:55
were swirling that Labour was going to
5:56
cancel the local elections in England
5:59
why aren’t they all
6:00
going uh and I would say even before the
6:03
white paper has been
6:04
[Music]
6:07
published why aren’t they going ahead
6:10
Minister well at the moment the
6:11
assumption is that elections are going
6:13
ahead however it’s usual journalist then
6:16
revealed confidential audio of an
6:18
internal labor conference in which
6:20
starma was purportedly heard planning
6:24
how to keep his position as leader while
6:27
seeming to oppose measures that would
6:29
annoy significant funders the shock did
6:32
not stop there according to the tape
6:35
starma gave great priority to
6:37
maintaining his standing as the leading
6:40
defender of Labor’s fundamental
6:42
principles a starmer appeared to be
6:44
caught in the middle of a risky
6:46
political game the audio was so
6:48
heartbreaking that it left Spectators in
6:50
stunned silence the next 4 minutes uh
6:53
will be about Kier starmer who’s off on
6:56
um a tour again around the world and um
6:59
he’s been playing football never he care
7:02
which C first here we go here we go here
7:06
we
7:06
go that’s what that’s the headlines you
7:09
got K sta sir K dama and his defense
7:13
strategy first thing first cover the
7:15
crown jewels so he’s cover the pressure
7:18
on K stama increased as the interview
7:20
went on he tried to brush the
7:22
disclosures off as part of a smear
7:24
campaign but his apprehensive Manner and
7:26
hesitant answers only made people feel
7:29
more uneasy he was subjected to constant
7:32
pressure from the host who wanted him to
7:34
explain the particular accusations
7:36
starma found it difficult to reconcile
7:38
his acts that seemed to contradict his
7:41
commitments to change with his promises
7:44
of
7:45
transformation by the end of the
7:47
interview starmer’s leadership was in
7:49
ruins the disclosures had shattered his
7:52
credibility and both his closest
7:54
Associates and Rivals were wondering if
7:57
he could continue to steer a party that
7:59
was becoming more and more split along
8:02
scandalous lines it’s got a a popularity
8:05
rating of minus 34 and this is the
8:08
recent Prime Ministers going back to
8:09
Margaret Thatcher who do you think was
8:11
the most popular one thater no actually
8:15
it’s not it’s Tony Blair who had popular
8:18
rating 57 who came second though but you
8:20
can’t guess this
8:22
one no no John Major I was going to say
8:25
that yeah uhuh yeah absolutely Thatcher
8:27
had approval rating of minus these
8:29
Revelations could have a significant
8:31
impact on st’s career as well as the
8:33
future of the labor party the
8:36
controversy surrounding K starma only
8:38
grew as a result of his incapacity to
8:41
give a proper response during the heated
8:43
interview the consequences were severe
8:46
and quick social media erupted shortly
8:48
after the interview concluded videos of
8:51
the startling disclosures went viral and
8:53
the Public’s reaction was quick and
8:55
harsh calls for his resignation came
8:58
from all political Persuasions and the
9:00
hash starma rest started to
9:03
Trend formerly Ardent supporters of
9:06
starma Express their indignation and
9:09
accuse him of compromising the party’s
9:11
fundamental beliefs former backers who
9:14
had trusted his vision for labor began
9:17
to wonder if they had been duped all
9:19
along senior party officials also felt
9:22
betrayed in addition to the general
9:28
public I I I’m not going to adjudicate
9:31
between the contending uh singles for uh
9:33
number uh for uh for uh the top of the
9:36
charts but I I I will end Mr Speaker
9:38
this is the last um question I think by
9:40
just repeating um a happy Christmas and
9:43
a peaceful New Year to everyone across
9:45
the
9:46
house I’m afraid that’s going to have to
9:48
be turned into
9:50
something several prominent labor MPS
9:53
who had previously supported Kia st’s
9:55
leadership publicly demanded his
9:58
resignation the legislators many of whom
10:00
had been in st’s Inner Circle were upset
10:03
and disappointed saying they no longer
10:05
trusted his leadership after the
10:08
discoveries Piera is no longer capable
10:11
of leading our party according to a
10:13
political s path leading to a senior MP
10:16
who said simply that we cannot forward
10:18
with a leader who is more concerned with
10:20
defending his position than standing up
10:22
for the nation’s working class even
10:24
members of the larger political Elite
10:26
such as those who had backed starmer’s
10:28
Ascent to power started to change their
10:30
minds about the Christmas single which
10:33
is lonely this Christmas it’s sort of a
10:35
ripoff of that uh I shouldn’t say a rip
10:37
off um it’s called um freezing this
10:39
Christmas should we have a
10:42
listen it’ll be
10:45
freezing this Christmas while a money
10:49
goes abroad it’ll be
10:52
[Music]
10:55
present they consider themselves to be
10:59
labor and capital markets in America’s
11:01
biggest economies political commentators
11:03
quickly saw this as a pivotal moment of
11:05
Reckoning for both starma and the labor
11:08
party itself as the meticulously
11:10
constructed Narrative of a leader
11:13
dedicated to rebuilding labor and
11:15
confronting the conservatives was coming
11:17
apart in real time his leadership was
11:21
rocked by the incident which revealed a
11:23
gap that would be hard to heal
11:26
significant harm resulted raising doubts
11:29
about starmer’s ability to win back the
11:31
Public’s and his own party’s trust
11:34
evident that both his and the labor
11:36
party’s Futures were in Jeopardy as
11:38
calls for his resignation increased what
11:41
we’re not hearing about from labor is
11:42
things like fracking yeah and this is
11:44
what we need to actually get our economy
11:47
going cheap energy low costs make it
11:51
easy to employ people they’re doing the
11:53
opposite they’re making it harder to
11:54
employ people they’re pushing up the
11:56
energy cost with Net Zero and they are
11:58
making it very very difficult to go out
12:01
to work and run a business in this
12:02
country and they said they weren’t going
12:04
to hit workers what we keep in mind that
12:07
just days ago Liz truss also threw her
12:09
allegations to K starma on another live
12:12
interview and he couldn’t deny it truss
12:14
made her first major public appearance
12:16
since retiring using live television to
12:18
reveal what she claims are deeply
12:20
troubling details regarding st’s
12:22
behavior and Leadership but it was not
12:25
just an ordinary interview because Liz
12:27
trust was prepared with damag criticism
12:30
and Preposterous accusations just for
12:32
the latest on K starma and wardrobe gay
12:35
I was amazed right and and this is why I
12:37
know this country um is in terrible
12:41
terrible stook I watched channel 4 news
12:43
last night and I got to 40 minutes in
12:46
and I thought are they going to mention
12:47
the fact that K stama uh is under the
12:49
Kos here that you know Lord Ali and the
12:51
revelations coming out of the penthouse
12:53
the1 18 million pound Penthouse are
12:55
getting worse that you know the uh the
12:57
the main focus of truss’s disclosure was
12:59
her claim that KIA starma had had a
13:02
secret affair while serving as the
13:03
opposition leader she asserted that this
13:06
romance not only raised questions about
13:08
his moral Integrity but also exposed him
13:11
to potential blackmail this was no minor
13:14
accusation it struck at the heart of
13:16
starmer’s painstakingly cultivated
13:19
reputation as a leader with high moral
13:21
standards and this claim proves to be
13:24
true it could ruin his standing with
13:26
voters and inside the labor party saying
13:29
this is sleazy horrible ghastly and then
13:32
it went to the whole end of the hour and
13:34
they didn’t mention it at all then I
13:36
watched Question Time U where Fiona
13:38
Bruce was sort of gasping in amazement
13:40
when one of the questioners uh from the
13:43
audience actually said I voted labor all
13:44
my life but I now cannot bring myself to
13:47
do so anymore because of the terrible
13:49
corruption that is going on inside the
13:51
party Fiona Bruce was surpris now if you
13:53
got BBC on social media debates and
13:56
hashtags trending both in support of and
13:58
against star broke out everyone doubted
14:01
that truss’s accusations were true for
14:03
many this realization was just the
14:05
beginning was there something else
14:07
starma was hiding truss hinted that more
14:10
details might be disclosed leaving the
14:12
public in anticipation observers noted
14:15
that starmer’s normally composed
14:16
demeanor seemed shaken could this be the
14:19
beginning of the labor party leaders
14:21
political downfall or did truss largely
14:23
exploit The public’s need for
14:25
controversy what impact does this have
14:28
on British politics that the last uh
14:31
Bunch that were the recipients of this
14:34
kind of large s were the Tories and they
14:36
were the ones partying in Downing Street
14:38
and so on and guess who was on their
14:40
high horse criticizing it all it was
14:43
this lot and that’s what people hate
14:45
they hate the hypocrisy they hate the
14:48
perception of uh these entitled
14:51
politicians having a great time and I
14:53
tell you what else they hate they as the
14:55
dust settles the British people remain
14:58
divided according to others st’s
15:00
reputation has been irreparably harmed
15:02
by trust his claim others view them as a
15:05
phony ruse to divert attention away from
15:07
criticism of her political failings
15:10
despite her remarkable return to
15:12
politics Liz trust still has to overcome
15:14
her challenges while detractors accuse
15:16
her of exploiting sensationalism to stay
15:19
relevant supporters see her as a
15:23
Fearless advocate for openness
15:25
regardless of the outcome her bold
15:27
approach has ensured that her voice will
15:29
not be ignored there are still lies in
15:33
itself that setup of the message during
15:37
Lockdown from Lord Ali’s flat that was
15:39
made to look like K st’s own property
15:43
that was a lie and that is for me
15:46
possibly the worst and most damaging
15:48
aspect of this story that this is a guy
15:50
who is leading our country who is the
15:52
representative of the United Kingdom at
15:55
the United critics argue that the
15:57
media’s propensity to send tionalized
15:59
debates over content draws attention
16:02
away from more urgent issues they argue
16:05
that it promotes a culture of political
16:07
spectacle which ultimately lowers the
16:09
bar for governing the popularity of
16:12
political drama fueled by scandals like
16:14
the one between truss and starma cannot
16:17
be overstated political scandals have
16:20
long enthralled the people who seem
16:21
increasingly disillusioned with
16:23
traditional political narratives this
16:25
obsession with Scandal also reflects a
16:27
broader trend of dist trust towards
16:29
political institutions particularly in
16:32
the wake of brexit a large number of
16:34
Voters have lost interest in political
16:36
Elites and are searching for leaders
16:38
they perceive to be more trustworthy
16:40
transparent and
16:42
approachable thus the trust sta issue
16:45
exacerbates the ongoing conflict between
16:48
governmental leadership and popular
16:50
trust in the 70s we had very powerful
16:53
unions and an inefficient manufacturing
16:56
sector now we have a very power
16:59
bureaucracy and they are in charge the
17:01
bank of England the office of budget
17:03
responsibility I know I’ve been there
17:05
these are the people dictating the
17:07
policy and until we actually rest
17:10
control away from those bureaucrats and
17:12
start holding politicians to account
17:15
we’re not it’s a shamed she was unable
17:17
to serve out her entire tenure as prime
17:19
minister she showed more bravery than
17:22
the majority of her party’s male members
17:24
currently exhibit starma seems to have
17:27
been profoundly agitated by her Frank
17:29
criticism of him even going so far as to
17:32
call him Britain’s most dangerous person
17:35
you know it’s going to be a very painful
17:37
day but what will happen is because the
17:39
taxes are going so high it will stop
17:43
businesses investing in this country
17:44
yeah and what we’ll find is next year
17:46
labor want to come back for more and
17:49
that is really frightening for our
17:51
country because they just want to keep
17:52
feeding the Beast don’t they because
17:54
they keep saying there’s no money
17:55
there’s a 22 billion P black go suddenly
17:57
it becomes A40 billion P black
17:59
and yet they first the reactions
18:01
followed with some praising truss’s
18:03
courage and others accusing her of
18:04
organizing a smear campaign whatever
18:07
they believed one thing was for sure
18:09
truss had reclaimed her political
18:11
stature and starma was now on the
18:13
defensive so cold without fuel at home
18:20
this
18:21
[Music]
18:22
Christmas freezing this Christmas a
18:25
fantastic song that’s been been dreamed
18:27
up uh by Sir starm and the granny
18:29
harmers it mocks the Prime Minister the
18:31
BBC apparently don’t want to play it for
18:34
some bizarre reason because it’s anti- K
18:36
sta let’s have a look at what Luke Evans
18:38
MP the issue involving Kia starma has
18:41
surfaced at a pivotal moment in British
18:43
Politics as the general election draws
18:46
near with his reputation as a reliable
18:48
replacement for Boris Johnson and rishy
18:50
sunuk starma was viewed as the leader
18:53
who might bring about success as labor
18:56
was predicted to challenge the dominance
18:58
of the cons conservative party but those
19:00
Ambitions are being quickly dashed by
19:02
the Scandal Labor’s internal differences
19:05
which were already tense between
19:06
left-wing and Centrist groups have
19:08
gotten worse fed up with starmer’s
19:11
restraint since taking over for Jeremy
19:13
Corbin the left interprets the
19:15
controversy as evidence that he is more
19:17
in line with the elite than the working
19:20
class in carbon capture stop I don’t
19:23
want to be a world leader in carbon
19:26
capture green energy I want cheap energy
19:30
I don’t want to be poor and colder stop
19:32
telling a world leader in carbon capture
19:36
why no one cares stop wasting our money
19:39
on this do you know how foolish and uh
19:42
impractical carbon capture is for many
19:46
starmer’s back room dealings are
19:49
perceived as a betrayal some within the
19:51
party still believe starma offers the
19:54
best chance for labor to return to power
19:57
they contend that in order to take on
19:59
the conservatives the party needs to
20:01
come together under a credible leader
20:04
however with public trust declining and
20:07
st’s Leadership now under scrutiny
20:09
Labour’s future is uncertain political
20:12
observers have predicted that stam’s
20:14
leadership May soon come to an end as
20:17
the demand to resign has increased they
20:19
say it doesn’t work it doesn’t work
20:21
that’s because it doesn’t work uh but
20:24
anyways over in uh Norway talking about
20:26
this why got more important things to do
20:29
than that and now he’s flown to Estonia
20:31
again for no apparent reason uh but what
20:35
emerged at the weekend uh yesterday in
20:38
fact in the Sunday papers uh Russ and I
20:42
think this is what we really should be
20:44
talking about with the election looming
20:46
labor cannot afford a crisis the next
20:48
few days will reveal whether starma can
20:50
rebuild his credibility or if his time
20:53
as leader reshaping the UK’s political
20:55
landscape is over what do you think

Irish leaders have contributed to ‘hatred against Jews’, says Chief Rabbi | LBC
(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hEFnapr4gF8)
Following the announcement of the closure of the Israeli embassy in Dublin, Iain Dale is joined by lawyer Alan Shatter to discuss the Chief Rabbi, Yoni Wieder, claim that Irish leaders have contributed to hatred against Jews.
This comes as foreign minister Gideon Saar accuses the country of “crossing every red line”, blaming “the extreme anti-Israel policies of the Irish government”.
His statement said Israel’s ambassador to Dublin has been recalled in the past following what it called Ireland’s “unilateral decision to recognise a Palestinian state”.
It added that the decision followed Ireland’s announcement of its support for South Africa’s legal action against Israel in the International Court of Justice (ICJ), accusing the country of “genocide”.
Ireland’s Chief Rabbi Yoni Wieder told The Telegraph that “many of the 3,000 Jews in Ireland no longer feel safe enough to wear symbols of their identity”.
Ireland’s President Michael D. Higgins has dismissed Israeli’s accusations of ingrained antisemitism in Ireland as “deep slander”.

0:00
now I want to turn to a subject uh
0:02
related to the Republic of Ireland
0:04
because I’ve become really interested in
0:07
Irish politics over the past few years
0:08
partly because I realized how little I
0:10
knew about the history of the Republic
0:13
of Ireland and indeed its politics so
0:16
what do you do when you don’t know much
0:17
about something you edit a book about it
0:19
so I’ve edited a book about all of the
0:21
different uh well 16 now 16 different
0:25
men who’ve been t-shock of the Republic
0:27
of Ireland since
0:28
1922 and that really taught me a hell of
0:30
a lot about the country and its history
0:33
so when I saw this story today about the
0:35
chief Rabbi saying that Irish political
0:38
leaders have contributed to hatred
0:40
against Jews my ears pricked up whatever
0:45
the eye equivalent of ears pricking up
0:47
is that happened because I thought well
0:48
this is this is actually quite a a
0:52
difficult moment I think in relations
0:54
between the Republic of Ireland and
0:56
Israel because the Republic of Ireland
0:58
has adopted a very anti-israel stance um
1:01
over the past 18 months or so um they
1:04
they expressed sympathy with the state
1:06
of Israel Over the October the 7th
1:08
attacks but they’ve consistently taken a
1:10
very anti-israel line a very Pro
1:13
Palestinian line they’ve become one of
1:15
the few countries in Europe to recognize
1:18
the Palestinian State alongside Norway
1:20
they also uh spoke up publicly in favor
1:24
of the South African action at the IC um
1:27
indicting Benjamin Netanyahu the Israeli
1:30
prime minister now the Israelis very
1:32
very unhappy with this as you can
1:33
imagine and then um a couple of weeks
1:36
ago Israel decided to close its Embassy
1:39
in Dublin and withdraw its Ambassador so
1:41
some pretty bad feelings between both of
1:45
the states well this has had
1:47
consequences because according to the
1:49
chief Rabbi he says Jewish schools in
1:52
Irish Jewish children in Irish schools
1:54
are hiding their Heritage from their
1:56
fellow peoples because anti-israel
1:59
sentiment is so strong across the
2:01
country now Yoni vaer who is the chief
2:05
Rabbi said that many of the roughly
2:07
3,000 Jews in Ireland no longer felt
2:09
safe enough to wear signs of their
2:11
identity such as skull caps or the Star
2:13
of David on the streets he said there
2:16
have been a significant rise in
2:18
anti-Semitism since the October the 7th
2:20
Terror attacks and Israel’s war in Gaza
2:23
now Ireland’s support for the
2:25
Palestinians and fierce criticism of
2:26
Israel has seen it clash with
2:28
netanyahu’s government which closed its
2:31
Embassy in Dublin this week as I say uh
2:34
Gideon s Israel’s foreign minister
2:36
accused the t-shock Simon Harris of
2:38
being an an anti-semite after the Irish
2:41
Premier said the embassy closure was to
2:44
distract from the killing of children in
2:46
Gaza well Rabbi VA speaking to the
2:48
telegraph said of late many Jews are not
2:50
comfortable to display signs of their
2:52
Jewish identity outside their homes as
2:54
is traditional or to wear things like a
2:57
star of David or a Jewish skull cup when
3:00
walking the streets what I’m most upset
3:02
and concerned about is the number of
3:04
school children who have told me in
3:06
recent months that they feel afraid
3:08
because they’re Jewish or that they
3:10
avoid talking about being Jewish in
3:12
front of their non-jewish
3:14
peers now I know we have lots of
3:16
listeners in the Republic of Ireland so
3:18
I’d love to hear from you get your
3:19
reaction to this um do do you think the
3:22
actions of your government have
3:25
exacerbated this situation or do you
3:27
think no actually uh they they have
3:29
every right to take the stance that
3:31
they’ve taken and to people who are
3:33
listening in the United Kingdom is this
3:36
happening here if you were Jewish are
3:39
you are you now in a situation that you
3:41
never thought you’d be in where you feel
3:43
that you can’t make public displays of
3:46
your religion what do you put that down
3:49
to is it how the war in Israel and Gaza
3:52
is being reported in the media is it due
3:55
to the politics of Israel the politics
3:58
of this country
4:00
um do you think it’ll ever change 0345
4:03
6060 973 is the number to call well
4:07
let’s talk to Alan shatter who is an
4:10
Irish lawyer author and former fenale
4:12
Minister for justice and equality and
4:14
former Minister of Defense between 2011
4:16
and
4:17
2014 uh Alan thank you for joining us on
4:20
LBC now you’ve been writing about this I
4:23
believe what what’s your reaction to
4:24
what the chief Rabbi has
4:27
said well firstly I entirely agree with
4:31
the chief ravi’s depiction of where we
4:35
are now in Ireland um criticism of
4:39
Israel of course isn’t of itself
4:41
anti-semitic nor is criticism of the
4:43
Israeli government uh three quarters of
4:46
the population of Israel are regularly
4:48
critical of the Israeli government the
4:51
the the issue is essentially the extreme
4:55
nature of the anti-israeli narrative
4:58
which is promoted
5:00
by the Irish government uh the
5:03
inflammatory language consistently used
5:06
by Ireland’s t-shir prime minister uh
5:10
Simon Harrison by ‘s uh foreign minister
5:14
miall Martin uh the extent to which
5:18
that’s
5:20
validating uh what was in the past
5:22
covert anti-semitic sentiment that has
5:25
become uh overt on the streets of Dublin
5:29
and
5:30
the uh completely
5:32
unbalanced uh critique of Israel which
5:36
extraordinarily since October 7 2023 has
5:40
been accompanied by the Irish government
5:44
uh embracing and further deepening its
5:47
relationship with Iran uh something that
5:50
seems to have been gone largely
5:52
unnoticed on the international stage um
5:55
in circumstances in which uh Iran is the
6:00
central malign force in the Middle East
6:03
advocating Israel’s destruction it uses
6:05
its proxies Hamas isah theotis other
6:09
fanatical Islamic groups some located in
6:12
Iraq some formerly located in Syria that
6:15
in recent days have found uh their
6:18
circumstances changing um it’s quite
6:21
extraordinary uh that the Irish
6:23
government should have further deepened
6:25
its relationship with Iran to the extent
6:27
how have they done that last sep
6:30
well in September just gone uh two three
6:33
months ago uh they opened an embassy in
6:37
Teran the Irish political parties that
6:41
uh you referenced in your introduction
6:43
uh your your knowledge of uh of Ireland
6:46
and Ireland’s politics well last spring
6:49
each of the Irish political parties
6:51
including the government parties held
6:53
their annual party political conferences
6:56
no different to the political
6:58
conferences held in in England by the
7:01
labor party conservative party and
7:03
others uh in each of the Irish uh
7:05
political parties conferences including
7:08
the conferences of the government
7:10
parties um the Iranian ambassador to
7:13
Ireland was an honored guest and the
7:15
Israeli ambassador to Ireland uh was
7:18
boycotted uh she wasn’t invited to all
7:22
but one of the conferences the one
7:24
conference she was invited to was that
7:26
of the uh prime minister’s party the
7:29
current prime minister’s party finan of
7:31
which I used to be a member and uh that
7:34
invitation was cancelled and the Irish
7:37
uh uh prime minister used his conference
7:41
as an opportunity uh to uh on a very
7:44
personal basis attack Israel’s prime
7:47
minister in the presence of the Iranian
7:50
Ambassador uh so so Ireland has become a
7:53
a an outlier in Europe in the extreme
7:56
nature of its criticism of um uh of
8:00
Israel and in May last uh together with
8:04
Spain and Norway uh announced its
8:07
recognition of the State of Palestine
8:09
which was perceived uh by uh many people
8:13
as a reward uh for the terrorist
8:16
atrocities perpetrated by Hamas in
8:18
October uh 2023 and hamas’s continuing
8:22
firing of rockets in Israel uh since
8:25
that age see it seems very odd because
8:27
on the face of it you you look at Martin
8:30
you look at Simon Harris and you think
8:31
we’re both perfectly reasonable moderate
8:33
people and yet everything you’ve
8:36
described in this
8:38
conversation points to the very
8:41
opposite everything I’ve described is
8:44
simply factual it’s not a matter of
8:47
opinion uh when you look at the two
8:49
major political parties that uh were
8:52
part of the outgoing Irish government
8:54
and which are going to form uh the main
8:57
center of the incoming new government
8:59
government uh they would both in the
9:01
context I think of European or UK uh
9:04
politics uh be perceived as Centrist
9:07
parties their centr in everything save
9:10
for their uh approach to the state of
9:14
Israel their political pronouncements
9:17
their unbalanced presentations of what
9:20
are very complex background
9:23
circumstances uh in those contexts
9:25
they’ve adopted the extreme Narrative of
9:28
shin and other leftwing parties uh in
9:32
the Irish opposition I I suppose you
9:35
could best depict the policies adopted
9:38
by the Irish two government parties with
9:40
regard to Israel as uh replicating uh
9:44
The Narrative of Jeremy Corbin uh when
9:47
leader of the labor party a narrative he
9:50
still aders to uh while on the outer
9:53
edges of the UK
9:56
politics now Ireland doesn’t have a
9:58
massive Jewish population but the chief
10:00
Rabbi is clearly worried about the
10:02
consequences for this that people he
10:04
says Jews are no longer no longer feel
10:07
safe to wear signs of identity like
10:09
skull caps or the Star of David on on
10:11
the streets now I suspect that is very
10:13
much the same in this country our our
10:16
government our previous government our
10:17
current government haven’t gone down the
10:19
road that the Irish government have but
10:22
that there are many people Jewish people
10:24
in this country who are feeling unsafe
10:26
at the moment do you think that’s going
10:27
to change in the immediate future
10:31
I I think it should be said that
10:33
fortunately so far in Ireland uh the
10:36
sort of physical violence on the streets
10:38
towards members of the Jewish community
10:40
that has occurred uh in the UK and in
10:44
London uh has largely been absent uh we
10:48
have had uh one violent incident which
10:51
is attributed to anti-Semitism that the
10:54
police are investigating but much of the
10:57
concern of the Jewish community is
11:00
generated uh by uh weekly marches that
11:03
took place on the Irish streets uh which
11:06
were uh in theory Pro Palestinian
11:09
marches but which evolved into not just
11:12
anti-israeli marches but uh the use of
11:17
um anti-semitic narratives when all you
11:19
really had to do was substitute the word
11:22
uh Jewish phist as it was deployed uh
11:25
they became effectively interchangeable
11:27
the chanting was seen as threatening
11:29
there were basically calls for the uh
11:32
destruction of the Israeli State Hamas
11:35
hisbah popular front for the liberation
11:37
of Palestine flags were waved um but
11:41
there’s also an underlying series of
11:44
underlying issues and problems um Irish
11:47
social media is a cesspit of
11:50
anti-Semitism and much of what’s posted
11:52
on it uh directed at Irish Jewish people
11:56
can be identified uh substantially as a
11:59
originating in Ireland some originates
12:01
from outside Ireland uh within the Irish
12:04
education system you were talking about
12:06
school children earlier within the Irish
12:08
education system school books have been
12:11
contaminated by um uh completely
12:15
inaccurate depictions of uh the state of
12:19
Israel of the Jewish religion to the
12:22
extent that what is now being taught in
12:25
schools could be regarded as
12:27
anti-Semitic
12:29
uh a group of teachers in Ireland who
12:31
formed uh an organization called uh
12:35
teachers uh for Palestine and have put
12:39
an unofficial School curriculum uh up on
12:43
available on the internet back in March
12:45
in which they encourage be taught at all
12:47
schools in both uh primary and uh
12:51
secondary level uh this particular
12:54
narrative as displayed is designed in
12:57
completely distorting the background to
12:59
the Ireland sorry to the uh Israeli
13:02
Palestinian conflict uh to the extent of
13:05
brainwashing children in schools that
13:08
that has resulted in Jewish children in
13:10
a small number of Irish schools feeling
13:13
threatened being bullied uh parents
13:15
having to pull the children out of those
13:17
schools and despite uh uh this issue
13:21
being uh brought to the Detention of the
13:24
Irish uh Deputy Prime Minister miol
13:27
Martin uh and the Department of
13:30
Education they have studiously ignored
13:33
taking any action of any description to
13:36
address this issue and very recently
13:38
there was a report uh into uh Irish
13:42
School textbooks and school materials
13:45
which highlighted uh the uh inaccuracies
13:49
and Prejudice within it for example in
13:52
one particular page in a book widely
13:55
used uh within our school system uh AIT
13:59
was referenced as a prisoner of war camp
14:03
and the uh the uh Jewish religion was
14:06
depicted as a religion um dedicated to
14:10
war whereas Islam was a religion
14:12
depicted as dedicated to
14:15
peace I don’t know how these books ever
14:17
get published but there we are um Alan
14:19
thank you very much indeed for joining
14:20
us that’s Alan chat the former finail
14:23
Minister for defense well there’s so
14:26
many questions arising out of this um we
14:28
can concentrate on the Irish angle but
14:31
let’s let’s translate it towards the
14:32
United Kingdom as well because there’ll
14:34
be many Jewish parents who feel very
14:37
similar to Irish Jewish parents that uh
14:39
they are nervous about their children
14:41
wearing outward signs of Jewish identity
14:44
when walking the streets even just even
14:46
going to school even um a school uniform
14:49
that identifies their children uh as
14:52
being of a Jewish school I suspect
14:55
that’s a problem now is it is this
14:58
something that’s to to an extent always
15:00
existed or do you think it’s been
15:02
completely and I was going to say
15:05
enhanced that’s the wrong word uh
15:07
exaggerated by the events of the last 18
15:09
months and let’s also remember that we
15:12
should not be conflating
15:14
anti-Semitism with uh anti- uh Zionism
15:19
we should we should be using terms
15:21
correctly and I’m not so sure whether it
15:23
is whether the chief Rabbi here is right
15:26
when he’s accusing the Irish t-u of
15:28
anti-semitism M here um saying that you
15:31
recognize a Palestinian state to me is
15:34
not a sign of somebody who’s
15:36
anti-semitic it is a sign of somebody
15:39
who wants to see a two-state solution so
15:42
you you we do have to use our words
15:45
carefully here because words count don’t
15:48
they so let’s try and have over the next
15:51
40 minutes a rational a calm discussion
15:55
over the situation that Jewish people
15:57
find themselves in both in the Republic
15:59
of Ireland and in the United Kingdom how
16:01
has it come to this um are the actions
16:04
of our respective governments uh almost
16:07
inadvertently promoting these things and
16:09
should should both governments be doing
16:11
more to combat it
