Bideoa: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XKydQNeZJDM
Hamas has accepted a UN Security Council ceasefire resolution and is ready to negotiate over the details. Senior Hamas official Sami Abu Zuhri says the group accepts the resolution, in regard to the ceasefire, the withdrawal of Israeli troops and swap of hostages for detainees held by Israel. He says that it’s now up to Washington to ensure that Israel abides by it.

Bideoa: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t0Fg-ICjCio
Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad have expressed “readiness to positively” reach a deal to end the war in Gaza in a joint statement. They added that they submitted their response to the proposed Gaza ceasefire deal to Qatari and Egyptian mediators. “Our response prioritises the Palestinian people and the complete end of the ongoing onslaught on Gaza,” the two groups said.

you’re watching Al jazer I want to tell
0:02
you straight away about some breaking
0:04
news that has just come in uh we are
0:06
told sources have told Al jazer that
0:09
Hamas has submitted its response to the
0:12
US outlined ceasefire proposal that’s
0:15
coming as Hamas and the Palestinian
0:17
Islamic Jihad group issued a joint
0:20
statement expressing Readiness to reach
0:22
a deal now according to sources they
0:25
have made some amendments the Amendments
0:28
include a withdrawal from the entire
0:31
Gaza Strip including the Rafa Crossing
0:34
and the Philadelphia Corridor we’ll try
0:37
and get you more details as they come in
0:40
and then we’ll share them with you um at
0:42
this juncture I want to bring in our
0:44
guest James Elder he is a UNICEF
0:47
spokesperson and he joins us live from
0:50
in Gaza James grateful to have you with
0:53
us um you’re back in Gaza how would you
0:57
describe the situation
1:01
hell on Earth Lea um after what happened
1:04
over the weekend to be today in alaxa
1:06
hospital um where which was already
1:10
packed already Beyond capacity last week
1:12
and then to have 400 people with these
1:15
horrendous wounds of War coming in the
1:17
space of an hour so again today walking
1:20
around with a doctor with these
1:21
incredible Physicians who are doing
1:23
24-hour shifts we’re walking over
1:26
children with these wounds of War on the
1:28
floor you know with head with head
1:30
injuries because the capacity has just
1:32
been absolutely absolutely devastated it
1:34
felt like it could have been day one of
1:37
this horrendous war on children it is of
1:39
course day 250 and then to leave the
1:42
hospital and of course all we see is
1:44
Rubble I I I walk outside and and there
1:46
is there is a lady who’s in tears
1:49
because her family home has been
1:50
destroyed her husband’s killed and she
1:52
just wants wants a tent Lea as you and
1:55
your viewers know these stories are
1:56
everywhere but they’re Relentless and
1:59
that’s why we hope this talk of a
2:01
ceasefire for th those people in power
2:03
who seem to be honest utterly
2:05
disconnected from the suffering of the
2:07
civilians of Gaza hopefully now this is
2:10
that moment because people from what I’m
2:12
seeing this time around look like
2:14
they’re just hanging on just hanging on
2:17
I mean the atrocities that have been
2:18
unfolding have been truly shocking what
2:21
do you make you know as as you’re
2:23
witnessing the situation there where you
2:24
are on the ground and the wrangling over
2:27
the ceasefire that just contined
2:31
news yeah it is I I think you know we
2:34
have to move beyond the words we have to
2:37
look at at the evidence on the ground
2:39
and the evidence on the ground literally
2:40
in terms of the rubble or literally with
2:43
Wounded children in tears on the ground
2:46
is there for all to see the intent here
2:48
has been the devastation of Gaza and the
2:50
devastation of Gaza from schools and and
2:54
universities the education to the
2:56
agriculture to to the learning capacity
3:00
it’s it’s it’s been ubiquitous uh and we
3:03
see this across now the G of strip to
3:06
see a million people have had to move
3:08
from Rafa exhausted Shell Shocked to try
3:13
again and find another home Believe It
3:14
or Not There is a shortage now of tents
3:17
and people are under plastic sheeting
3:19
it’s 45 degrees so I think it’s very
3:22
clear what the reality is that people
3:24
are enduring now of course they hold on
3:26
to hope people have to hold on to Hope
3:28
Lea when I meet people again people I’ve
3:30
become friends with and I say how are
3:32
you which sounds like such a silly
3:34
question their response is alive this is
3:37
people are grateful for being alive it
3:39
is insane that that this beautiful
3:42
Society is being reduced to gratitude
3:45
for being alive so yes the ceasefire
3:48
needs to look into the eyes of doctors
3:50
who ask me how much more evidence does
3:52
the Western World need or children who
3:55
simply plead plead to see their parents
3:58
again this is what this fire hopefully
4:01
hopefully will bring James Elder UNICEF
4:04
spokesperson sir thank you so very
4:09
much and I want to go now to Imran Khan
4:13
who is in the Jordanian Capital Aman uh
4:15
just to get some more on that breaking
4:18
news that we’ve been telling you about
4:20
Imran I understand you’re joining us on
4:22
the phone can you hear me
4:24
okay yeah I’ve got you Imran uh so as
4:27
we’ve just uh broke the news that Hamas
4:30
has submitted its response to the US
4:34
outlin ceasefire proposal what are you
4:36
hearing from your side well what Hamas
4:40
sources have told Al jazer is they are
4:43
ready and have submitted a response to
4:46
the proposed ceasefire deal to the qari
4:49
and Egyptian mediators this is a joint
4:53
statement that they have released so
4:56
it’s now very clear that they are
4:59
willing to negotiate earlier in the day
5:02
uh we heard from an Hamas official after
5:05
the resolution uh news had broken in the
5:08
security Council that Hamas were willing
5:10
to send negotiators this is now a step
5:13
forward to that they’ve responded to the
5:15
Egyptians and the qataris Hamas are now
5:18
ready to do something that will get to a
5:22
ceasefire the ball is now in Israel’s
5:25
Court remember the ceas the original
5:28
ceasefire deal that put forward he
5:30
always said this is the Israeli
5:33
ceasefire
5:34
deal Israel was quite surprised by that
5:37
um and what Israel said was we are
5:40
willing to perhaps commit to the first
5:42
phase of this which is a original six
5:44
week Seas deal and then um the release
5:47
of captives uh but what Anthony blinkin
5:52
has done for the last four days uh is
5:55
talk about the idea that this is on
5:57
Hamas Hamas need to respond Hamas need
5:59
to do something this is on Hamas well
6:02
this is now hamas’s response Hamas have
6:04
quite clearly um said they are willing
6:08
to negotiate and
6:12
this let’s see what happens in the next
6:14
couple of days remember on Wednesday
6:17
Anthony blinkin is in Doha there is a
6:19
press conference happening at 5:00 p.m.
6:21
local time with the air of Qatar he’s
6:25
going to have to take in this Hamas
6:28
response and talk about that at the
6:30
ceasefire at the um sorry the uh press
6:34
conference so right now it’s very
6:36
breaking news there’s only a few details
6:39
that we have but the clear messages from
6:42
both Palestinian Islamic Jihad and Hamas
6:45
that they are willing to talk they’re
6:48
willing to talk Imran but a salian
6:50
detail here according to sources is they
6:54
um they have made some amendments and
6:56
the Amendments include a withdrawal from
6:58
the entire Gaza strip including Rafa
7:01
Crossing and the Philadelphia Corridor
7:04
are these non-starters though for the
7:09
Israelis well Hamas have actually always
7:11
called for a permanent ceasefire that
7:14
was always what they were working
7:17
towards all of these are now just
7:20
negotiating details whether they’re
7:21
negotiating right now in public which is
7:24
what’s happening or whether they’re
7:26
negotiating in private hamas’s position
7:28
has always been very clear a permanent
7:31
seire that’s something Israel does not
7:34
want to do prime minister Benjamin
7:35
Netanyahu has always been very very
7:38
clear we need to destroy Hamas both
7:41
politically and mil
7:44
militarily most of his actual generals
7:48
most of the Israeli security
7:50
establishment thinks that that goal may
7:53
not be able to happen in the way the
7:55
Prime Minister
7:56
wants so although they’ve been clear on
7:59
the details they haven’t changed the
8:01
Hamas haven’t changed their position
8:03
it’s always been about a permanent
8:04
ceasefire for
8:07
Hamas it’s always been about a permanent
8:09
ceasefire for Hamas I’m just wondering
8:11
in terms of from the Israeli
8:13
leadership’s perspective of specifically
8:16
prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu um you
8:19
know if they if he were to accept a
8:22
ceasefire would that essentially spell
8:25
out the end of his government
8:31
that is a question that
8:35
I sorry I can you still hear me yes
8:38
you’re we can hear you Iman uh that is a
8:41
question better put to analysts and
8:43
people who are have an opinion all I can
8:46
report is the news to
8:48
you and the news and sorry I’m I’m
8:52
pausing slightly because it is a very
8:54
awkward question to answer here’s here’s
8:56
the
8:57
thing in Israel the common thinking is
9:01
that if uh there’s an end to the war and
9:04
there is a a new election prime minister
9:07
Benjamin Netanyahu loses so he continues
9:10
the war because he wants to stay in
9:13
power that is an opinion that many
9:16
people in Israel hold I think that’s the
9:18
only way I can answer that question
9:20
gotcha no worries so Imran in terms of
9:23
you know uh up to now we I mean we’ve
9:25
heard today from uh US Secretary of
9:28
State uh uh blinkin Anthony blinkin but
9:31
I’m wondering have we heard from um
9:34
prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu
9:35
endorsing uh this resolution that was
9:38
passed in uh the uh un Security
9:42
Council well let me tell you the
9:45
response to the UN Security Council
9:47
resolution was incredibly muted the only
9:50
real thing that we heard was actually a
9:53
statement by the uh US Secretary of
9:56
State Anthony blinkin who turned around
9:58
and said
10:00
Mr Benjamin who has committed to a ceas
10:03
fire
10:05
proposal compare that to what
10:08
happened with the last three C5
10:11
proposals when Israel went after the
10:13
United Nations and said the United
10:15
Nations are anti-israeli the United
10:18
Nations are
10:19
anti-semitic um they couldn’t do that
10:22
with this resolution because it was us
10:25
Le and even the Israelis would not
10:28
criticize the US now backstage uh there
10:32
was a lot of confusion because Anthony
10:35
uh sorry President Joe Biden had always
10:38
said that this was the Israeli proposal
10:41
that they were putting forward in Israel
10:43
there was a lot of surprise about that
10:45
because they thought that they would
10:48
commit to the first stage of it which is
10:50
a six week ceasefire and then the
10:53
release of some captives and then
10:56
another stage but what they didn’t want
10:59
is is the idea that the third stage
11:01
would
11:02
be Israeli troops withdrawing from the
11:05
Gaza Strip and the rebuilding of
11:08
Gaza prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu
11:11
has been absolutely clear about this and
11:12
I’m going to repeat this again he wants
11:15
to destroy Hamas politically and
11:18
militarily in his close circles and in
11:21
the far-right government the ceasefire
11:24
deal is being seen as allowing Hamas to
11:28
survive and that’s a big political
11:30
problem for the Prime
11:32
Minister Imran Khan reporting Imran
11:35
grateful for uh your reporting and uh
11:38
thank you
