How large a deficit is prudent? …., the government could offer a job to anyone who wanted one, at some minimum rate of pay deemed appropriate, and let the deficit float. This would end unemployment and unemployment compensation, eliminate the need for minimum wage laws, and promote price stability,…
The Federal debt is all the money spent but not taxed. …
The current budget debate is based on erroneous assumptions. Washington does not understand fiat money. Until it does, efforts to reduce the deficit will continue, and the economy will continue to underperform.

The Johannesburg II Declaration adopted at the end of the 2023 Summit in South Africa is a bid for full-fledged BRICS leadership in the world and, without exaggeration, a historic document.
REFORM OF INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTIONS
The BRICS intends to reform the UN, including its Security Council, to be more adequate to the realities. The goal is obvious — so that the US and its satellites do not rule the ball in the Organization.
The WTO also needs to be reformed, in particular, to restore the WTOAB mechanisms blocked by Washington.
SANCTIONS AND “ISOLATION OF RUSSIA”
Western sanctions, including those affecting the food security of the planet, are described in the declaration as “unilateral illegal measures” — exactly in line with Russia’s previously stated position.
Since BRICS produces a third of the world’s food — a real opportunity for sustainable food supply chains is being created. The “grain deal” is becoming an anachronism.
Isolation of Russia? What isolation, if in the key point of the BRICS declaration it expresses full support for Russia’s chairmanship in 2024 and the next summit in Kazan?
What about the topic of Ukraine? It was practically not discussed. The only place in “Johannesburg II” where it is mentioned is paragraph 19. Where is the “Zelensky peace formula” that the United States is trying to push through on every possible platform? It is not there.
DE-DOLLARIZATION OF THE WORLD ECONOMY
Everyone has written about the use of national currencies in mutual settlements in BRICS. Many have written about the creation of their own payment system. But few have noticed: the New Development Bank (NDB) will start playing a more active role in finance, which will be analyzed by … a network of BRICS think tanks. Remember, there are: Moody’s, Fitch, and Standard & Poor’s? They are no longer needed

Another sensation: BRICS is pushing for a revision of IMF quotas and reform of the Bretton Woods monetary system. Representatives of countries with real influence on the world economy — read BRICS — should be appointed to leading positions in its institutions. SPACE AND SECURITY
According to the declaration, the alliance expands cooperation in medicine, nuclear energy, IT, and space. The last point is extremely important: the development of a joint BRICS satellite constellation is announced. There will be no US monopoly on space, which primarily implies a military component, including the Starlink involved in Ukraine. How’s that sound, Elon Musk?
ALLIANCE EXPANSION
“The cherry on the cake” of the Johannesburg II declaration was the expansion of the alliance, with the addition of Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt. This is not only the integration of BRICS with OPEC+, with a blow to the petrodollar (settlement in national currencies), but also control of key sea lanes: Suez Canal, Strait of Hormuz, Taiwan Strait, Cape of Good Hope, tip of South America.
The BRICS now overtake the G7 in many key parameters: population size, real size of industrial production, energy consumption, a range of technological competencies, and geography. And these advantages will increase as more and more countries join the alliance, which will happen already at the next summit in Kazan.
Let us recall the list of applicants for BRICS membership: Algeria, Bangladesh, Bahrain, Belarus, Bolivia, Bolivia, Cuba, Venezuela, Vietnam, Honduras, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Morocco, Nigeria, Palestine, Senegal, and Thailand. That’s another 1 billion people — meaning that in total, BRICS will unite more than half of humanity. In fact, this is the foundation for the future UN.
If this is not a “checkmate” to the geopolitical hegemonism of the West, it is an unconditional “check.” The next move on the Great Chessboard will be made under the auspices of Russia.

Bolivia and Venezuela turning to BRICS: What they offer to strengthen the group.
Both countries have expressed their desire to join the alliance, offering to add their potential: a large and varied amount of natural, mineral and energy resources, which are strategic for the the global economy.
Bolivia holds the largest lithium reserves in the world. In addition, it offers the BRICS a direct influence in the South American Andean zone.
President Luis Arce said in an interview with RT that his country is a key player in paving the road for the diversification of the global energy matrix because, in addition to its lithium reserves, it has great mineral wealth that includes rare metals.
For Arce, BRICS opens the possibility of countries cooperation for their development and progress, where each one can contribute their best experiences in different areas in conditions of equality, respect and without depending on the dollar as a currency. He believes this is an opportunity for the people to have better trade, to improve investment and have freedom of speech.
The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, reiterated his interest in entering the BRICS to promote the new world geopolitics of the 21st century, through a unitary force that promotes a new paradigm for global relation.
He specified that the BRICS countries control 8.7% of world oil reserves, 25.2% of gas, contribute 40% of global energy and have 42% of the use of renewable energy and 37 % of energy consumption.
For this reason, he stressed that the integration of Venezuela would give the bloc full energy security, by adding the largest certified oil reserves in the world, which his country possesses, as well as other abundant resources such as iron, copper, gold, silver, bauxite , coltan, nickel, rhodium, titanium and more.
Maduro also highlighted Venezuela’s priviledged geographical position, with access to the Caribbean, which allows it to serve as a port of entry and exit for trade.

Why invest a good chunk of GDP in a ‘defensive’ bloc when it can’t even perform its core mission?
When the Ukraine conflict winds down, Russia will likely promote new ideas for Pan-European security.
These will be ideas that work for the mutual security benefit of the whole continent, not just preserve US power.
Washington will attempt to reject them, but Russia isn’t going anywhere. Soon it will have a military numbering 1.2 million strong and it’s armed to the teeth. Russian interests will not be ignored or passed over this time.
The US imperial model has politically emasculated and economically crippled Europe. The sooner Europe dumps their abusive Washington master, the better.

Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas faces resignation over her husband’s ties to Russia
It turned out that her husband Arvo Hallik continued to do business in Russia.
The Estonian opposition is demanding the resignation of the Prime Minister.
Kallas herself says she is not involved in her husband’s business and the company Stark Logistics, which is partly owned by her husband, assures that it will stop working with Russia in September. Hallick himself promises to sell all his shares in the company.

The head of EU diplomacy announced an “unprecedented” reduction in total EU imports from Russia due to European sanctions by more than more than 70% from the level of 2021, exports, he said, fell by 54%. He directly links these figures to the “effectiveness” of European sanctions.

That’s one way to look at it if you’re desperate to underplay the significance of this expanding Global South economic bloc.
Viewed another way, these additions would mean BRICS now reps 37% of global GDP (PPP), 40% of global oil production and 1/3rd of global gas production.That’s a force to be reckoned with and potentially poses a major threat to the U.S. petrodollar system.
It’s certainly a nightmare for the sustainability of western hegemony over the global economy in the long term, so I understand the desire to dismiss it, but handwringing doesn’t change the shift that’s taking place

“Eleven days ago, some of the most senior soldiers in the Nato alliance travelled to a secret location on the Polish-Ukrainian border to meet Ukraine’s chief military commander, Gen Valerii Zaluzhnyi, for what was privately billed as “a council of war”.
It was no ordinary discussion: Zaluzhnyi brought his entire command team with him on the roughly 300-mile journey from Kyiv. The aim of the five-hour meeting was to help reset Ukraine’s military strategy – top of the agenda was what to do about the halting progress of Ukraine’s counteroffensive, along with battle plans for the gruelling winter ahead plus longer-term strategy as the war inevitably grinds into 2024.
Particularly notable was the presence not just of Nato’s military chief, the American Gen Christopher Cavoli, but also Adm Sir Tony Radakin, Britain’s most senior military officer, who is now acknowledged in Washington and Kyiv as an increasingly important actor in helping Ukraine overcome the Russian invaders.
Nor was it the first such conversation. The summit at the border had partly come about after Radakin travelled without any British ministers to Kyiv, where he held an unpublicised 45-minute meeting with the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, aimed, defence sources said, at better understanding Ukraine’s strategy and how the west could help…
But the indications from the west is that the strategy has changed as a result of the discussions.”
